Any GoogleChrome users?

Until a few mins ago I had GoogleChrome installed (but rarely used it) for months and ever since installation, it was doing funny things to my computer; random unauthorized access (usually blocked by Norton Antivirus, but sometimes it was allowed) and random tampering of system settings and the like. Many times the target was liveupdate, for Norton, and the source of the tampering, usually from "googleupdate" and other google oriented names.

Today internet explorer refused to load SGW (game, not forums) and while this was happening I noticed my internet was sending out signals without my permission. I restarted my dialup and tried again, still would not load SGW, and again the same suspicious internet activity. I checked my processes in the task manager and found -sure enough- 2 google oriented processes, way up there in memory usage. (Not including google toolbar, which has never caused me a problem). I cut off both program's process trees, and as soon as I did my computer was back to normal.

I decided to turn on google chrome, to see if I could shut these programs down (Which should have already be turned off) and when I opened up Chrome's options, it would not load the "Basic" tab. After 4 attempts to open the basic options tab, I uninstalled google chrome.

So far the strange processes have not returned, hopefully it'll stay that way. We'll see I suppose..

What are your opinions/experiences with Chrome?
Sorry for the long read :?

right from the start google chrome wasnt all that good. it was too vulnerable to things like this, sending strange amounts of data off, hence why i didnt use it, but instead used SRWare Iron. essentially Chrome stripped and rebuilt without so many security issues.

in any case, Chrome was more of an artistic statement than anything else, i found its bookmark management to be awkward, generally just a browser to look pretty. Quite seriously they achieved this but with those security issues i wouldnt bother with it at all.

and dont use IE, its a joke.

tldr: get another browser. Firefox or Opera are good options, from memory they are small-ish download sizes, if you cant do it at home im sure you could go to a library with a USB and grab it while there..... Both of Opera and FireFox have numerous customisable add ons which wont mess up your browsing experience like yahoo toolbars and so on for IE. things like ABP (AdBlock Pro), FoxTab, and both are skinnable to suit your windows themes if you want to.

Ditto. Reading what Google put out about Chrome, I didn't see what the advantage was. Thanks for sharing your experience Solus. It confirmed my suspicion.

Thanks for the input Soul :-D

I've been using IE for 7 years now and it's never really given me a hard time, probably because I'm on dialup and can't really push it beyond its limit.. It's alright, for a joke
IE sucks but it gets the job done for me. This summer I'll be switching over to FF most likely though, main problem is getting used to it 8)
