hmm, good idea!
well first we have to find people who are willing to do it!
but it would be very hard to find a way that works completely, there will always be someone to complain about it, we just need to find a way that pleases the majority of people!

Users nominate someone, give a reason why, can self nominate. The admins go over the nominations, get input from the mods. The admins then vette the nominees leaving only about 4, the users and mods then vote on those four nominations.
Best way in my opinion.

I think it should be community vote only, and with no 'choosing' done by any individuals.

but say 24 people apply? how does it work then?
i know it wouldn't happen, but i'm still not sure?
and i was absent for the previous elections and i was wondering what exactly happened there? (sorry for going off topic, i'll ask somewhere else if you want)

The last election was a cluster****.
With my suggestion, Mordack, no one person is choosing the Ombudsman. The suggestion still allows the final choice of who becomes the Oms to rest in the collective hands of the voters, while also allowing the Admins to ensure that only qualified individuals are put up for election.

Perhaps we could hold two elections, one to make a top 3, then another for a #1 between them.

this would be flawed
because all FUall Members will vote for one person and all TTF for another
i vote that we choose the candidates and admin J chooses the winner

hmm? but how would jason know who to pick?
i may be wrong, but he probably doesn't know too much of us!
and i've been thinking maybe if they were just chosen by the people it wouldn't be a bad thing.
after all it is a person thats here for the people!
but i think that its going to be flawed in some way!
you'll never make everybody happy!

I say that theres a post made and if you want to be Ombudsman you post your name. Then all names are gathered up and voted on by the community then the top 5 or so get voted on and the winner gets it. Its pry allready been suggested im just a bit tired to read all the post
Regards

Then you still get friends voting for friends, rather than people voting for those they feel have the right qualities to do the job.

The problem with Jason picking from a list of people is that he may not know some or any of them. Yes that would make him unbiased, but then he wouldn't have any information to be able to make a good decision.
Then if Jason asked the forum admins about the names then people would shout biased again.
Bottom line is = There is no "unbiased" way of choosing an Ombudsman. There will never be an Ombudsman that everyone agrees with. Even if I was up for the post (who has never been in FUALL or TTF or any other major alliance) people will still complain.

Yeah, which is why I favour your system over some of the others proposed.
