I think it might be 'than' instead of 'then'.

I am just curious, because I do not know this. Could 'as' also be used in that position?

(Of course 'than' is more likely, but I am curious.)

That difference, which I will not contest, is particularly dependent on the attitude with which the remark is perceived, and not as much on the remark itself.
