Samoan Road change

So what do folks think to this, its the first contry since the 1970s to change the side of the road it drives on.

One of the reasons stated for the change is to end the reliance on the US and imports of US cars.

Apparently the change went off without any crashes or problems but it appears that those relying upon buses are currently stranded as the buses open into the middle of the road and have been withdrawn from service.

Any thoughts? Comments?

Idk i just think why would they change it if thay didnt have a reason to and i would imagine that busses would be something you think about before you change the side of the road you drive one.

Aside from the obvious flaw pertaining to the buses opening on the (now) wrong side.. I think they should have banned cars altogether.
I mean.. how big is Samoa? Oh. Thank you Wikipedia: largest island Savai'i, 43mi long, 29mi wide. You can walk. And, it is an island. If it is too far to walk, you go by boat.
So, ban cars from Samoa.

Peace, Samoa!

Yeah the buses thing was a bit stupid, as its reported the bus operators didnt bother making any preperations as they didnt think the gov would go through with it.

EDIT: Yeah Universe perhap getting rid of cars and encouraging more to use bikes and walk more would be more useful, especially since the nation is rather small.

I just though as its a significant change and one no one has done since the 70s people might like to discuss the benefits/differences to driving on each side of the road and the problems of changing it.

personallly i think this is great. the time and effort and danger (potentially) of this is hilarious to me. if they tried this in the uk id be run over often. good luck to those crazy folks for they brightened my day.

I doubt it has anything to do with hating the US, more likely its cheaper to get right hand drive cars (UK type) from a closer source or something like that I would imagine. I cant see them changing if left hand drive (US type) were cheaper to import, get parts for etc etc.

well yeah one of the reasons the gov gave for the change was to end their reliance on US imports and cars.

but thats just ONE of the reasons they gave, I'm sure there are plenty of others that didnt make the lil release on the BBC website.

The correct side of driving is on the right...or at least that's what continental Europe and USA do.
I don't and probably never will consider driving on the left the correct way. 8)

The government got the idea from some focus group to get reelected? Is there a election coming up soon?

seems like just pr policy smeared with some BS to give it some pseudo credibility.
