I've been playing for a short time now, and I don't think it really mattered what I chose, except that Indu gave me a slight advantage in improving faster over the ori\tolah, and about the same as the anja. I already have minimum of level 13 in everything (and up to 17 in certain areas).
Once you are around level 15 on everything, the choice of race is almost inconsequential.
Our weapons are a bit weird, the super attacker being cheaper than the super defender, but the best defence weapon is cheaper than the best offense weapon, so I don't think theres much difference there.
We have the 2nd best "background", only the anja one is better than ours, we have a better one than the tolah, and a much better one than that horrible red one the ori have.

True, I could see the redness getting to the Ori players. No wonder the Ori want to kill the Alterans!
