Alliance Splintering

Hey, I am an old player who is thinking of playing again. Last time I tried I found I missed Matt's death.

Anyway what in the world happened to old style alliances. All I see on the rankings are these 5-20 members groups. What happened to the 40+ member multi-timezone death machines? Has power inflation really made it so people don't have to put up with each other if they don't want to do so?

Or has the long-term population base continued to shrink and today's alliances are merely the fractured remnants of the behemoths of my day?

sadly today a single player is able to mass enitre alliances or even empires provided they have enough AT's... so there's little point to having large alliances and whe nan alliance has more than 30 folks, it's usually split on to 2 alliances and called empire :)

a lot of alliances have split up into smaller portions with all those under a single central command...

Ah so the old style alliances do still exist they have just continued the downward spiral into smaller and smaller sub-alliances providing for a more convoluted political structure.

mostly yes... at the moment, many of the former empires are somewhat shattered, due to well over a year of server war... mostly only the oldest empires still manage to keep together... (those too stubborn to tear themselves to pieces...)

Times change, people move with it.

Sadly many join empires just because it is easier to be with them than against them, and the old main alliance / training alliance config is tough to maintain when training alliances get dragged into main alliance fights just for having easy kills ( ascending stats ). But there are still some independents based on friendships that will never die :D
