A short while ago during a War I actually started to appreciate how frustrating it was for Influence to get in the way of rebuilding, and started to consider better why 4 out of 5 of my officers gave up ascended right after starting in the last year. Influence counts for so much of your rank that after a certain point, you have to build rediculous amounts just to Rank Up just a little if you are not over 10 or 12 Billion Planets yourself! This is often so frustratingly hard for newer Players that they often become inactive or even delete!
I seriously think the whole Influence issue needs to be re-balanced, to better reflect the Active Players, not just the big ones. If Influence reflected Trained, then many new players would get the Self-Gratifacation they would need to continue playing till it was habit forming

They would get to see them selves grow, without being hampered constantly by their size, and Ascended would be a more balanced Game, ... I think. This will have a secondary effect of forcing those that wish to maintain their Influence Rank to do or Maintain some Training. But ... As a possible BONUS secondary effect, it will allow Players of Larger size to manipulate their Ranks further, allowing them to go to a lower Rank than ever before should they wish (Influence having held them back before from lowering their Rank for whatever reason)
As a Further thought, I have heard suggestions maybe of bringing ME to Ascended, maybe we call the Military Experience Influence

or Whatever, this could be a way to bring 2 idea's together?!
(Influence = Trained Planets + Conquered/Destroyed Planets) maybe...
I am just thinking out loud here, so I hope no-one gets upset!
