The Orici was an excellent choice for their leader!
On the whole I agree that there was a lot of good characters and a good plot. The only beef I have with it was the speed of the development. The story and time they covered in the first episode could have easily been pushed into a double bill to create more tension and connection with the characters.
Even then I don't know if the whole thing could not have been stretched out long... I look forward to see how they play it out though!

Not all of us(read: me) have seen the old show and/or movies, and would like to keep the new show unspoiled. So spoilers are mandatory for anything that might spoil a future episode. Theories do not count unless they are based off the old show, then they gotta go into spoiler tags.
Now that said...
Who else has seen the first episode? I did and I liked it. It had good, interesting characters. I thought that their choice of the Orisi to play the leader of the "Visitors" was an excellent one. She does the role so well. I also liked how they had the "we are your savior" interview at the same time as the "they are here to kill us" meeting.
There really isn't anything that bothered me so much as to hinder my enjoyment of the show. Though I think the pilot should have been two hours, not one.
I look forward to the next episode. I think it is supposed to be fairly different than the original series, but I would still like to see those spoilers kept in spoiler tags with a warning stating that it might spoil future episodes.
I wouldn't worry about having spoilers from the old series spoil anything from the new one mate, its not gonna be the same and has been totally rewritten, only the concept is the same, it will be like having watched BSG the first time and then watching the new one, they were both so different, if anything watching it first time round will no doubt enhance it this time as i'm sure the writers will drop some bits and peices from the first one that will make you smile just like the writers did in BSG. ~T~
