Wigan Athletic's players are to refund fans' tickets for Sunday's humiliating 9-1 defeat at Tottenham.

A White Hart Lane horror show saw Roberto Martinez's side endure the proverbial run-around in the capital. Having had time to assess their performance in North London, Wigan's players have come to the decision to refund their travelling supporters. Captain Mario Melchiot accepts the level of their performance was unacceptable and hopes this gesture at least partially atones for such a heavy defeat.

finally. A team showing some backbone. This looks like a team are finally working for their money rather than happily walking away with full wages after being beaten so heavily

It is refreshing to see a team take responsibility for once. It is insulting enough that footballers are on tens of thousands of pounds a week whilst the common fan has to scrub together to afford to be able to watch them. It's a bloody disgrace to be honest.

i'm delighted to see this, it shows that there is still a hint of life in footballers these days
i bet the big teams wouldn't do it if it happened to them

i do believe the "big teams" have no need to do this, its rare they'd lose so badly. but then again, i'd also consider wigan a big team.
