Gradual Exploitation of Glitches

I just had a thought about an event that happened quite a long time ago. Basically someone had managed to generate trillions of naq (honestly thought it was quads) in the main server on a very small account. It was a blatant hack and there was major chaos over it. I actually hit one of these for an absolutely stupid amount of naquadah and piled it all into MS. You could contest my motives but the reason was to take the naq off the server. I never attacked anyone after that point. The MS was something outrageous. I don't recall the numbers but given the economy of the game I reckon about 5 years before anyone sees them numbers from TODAY. It must have been 2 years ago. I did report it, but saw nothing happen until someone hit me and noticed it on their logs. It was only until that kerfuffle that the issue was raised. Of course, admin subsequently put my MS back. I never gained any advantage from this mothership other than winning one battle in the space of two weeks (I was incredibly timely with my banking and always set realm alert over night - aside from that I didn't generate enough to be farmed anyway).

Good show right? No. Point is, there MUST be people who have managed to exploit these things over a sustained period of time. I could have bought a trillion attack weapons and sold them gradually. It makes you wonder. Even two years ago I remember noticing at least one account that was sat near the 400m army mark. Much beyond the average at the time. An account which in fact kept itself to itself, presumably to keep a low profile. I know this is an exponential game, but there have been some rather dramatic breakthroughs in the time I have watched the game develope.

Well it was a bit obvious, and given the market rates in dollars based on MS capacity these days, it would be safe to say it would still be worth about $50k.

Should have bought the attack weapons. ;)

Guys, he is serious. His MS was incredable.

Look at scuttles tho, he didnt remove his planets, and they still today are unfathomable and still in the game.

Cheers Rocky, wondered what the hell had happened then. I must have been posting in the public dump because my original post and others where missing. That's what happens when you have a quick mod and I press refresh on the same thread!

Anyway, let the debate rage.

I reckon any long term exploitation would have been noticed by now, there are a surpriseing number of Vigilantes from all walks of the game who keep an eye on things, And i often try and screw around with new features to see what makes them tick (of course the one time i found a "loophole" i reported it).

If someone was exploiting still to that level, everyone would know, OR noone would know. If noone knew it would be because said person kept a low profile, not useing the resourses to get big or gain huge rank or power, SO theres still really not a problem.... You cant exploit without it either being worthless, or noticeable.

I do agree however, there are certainly alot of things that probally still go on that maybe people dont even realise is exploitation, some sort of planet bug maybe? Just a guess.

And yeah Louis, I remember that Mothership, i believe you spent about half an hour on MSN telling me how you were going to "Pwnt me, then pwnt some n00bs" . I did enjoy hearing it, and that is DEFINATLY the biggest naq hit ever, Was ME around for that? Dont think so... Would have been funny to see, youd have rank 1 ME for the rest of the game. LoL.

yeah the planets suttles made are still around, why admin never removed these I dunno.

Was funny to see a tiny 1mil account with a 600k/day UP planet

I don't know if there is gradual exploitation still going on but there has certainly been exploitation going on. Generation of naq, UU from nothing and stuff like that and they went on for a while. I believe though that those loop holes were EVENTUALLY closed.

I remember seeing one of Scuttles planets on a random account. It was... impressive to say the least.

Shouldn't have put it in to your MS anyway, should have sent it to one of the admin accounts on permanent PPT. Then you should have reported it immediately, not wait for someone to hit you and then raise the issue. But still that's in the past. I don't think there are as many exploits abused these days.
