The Invasion of General

*coughs* I would like to protest the bans placed about 10 minutes ago on a number of forum spammers. Each individual was banned without a warning, verbal or otherwise, for spamming the general section.

While I understand that the flood of posts into the general section was more than a little insane, it is a huge abuse of mod powers to ban forum members without warnings, we have guidelines to follow for banning members.
The banned members I'm posting on behalf of include:
Biscuit
Gil-Galad
EDIT: to include Psi as one of the banned members I'm speaking on behalf of.

I have administrative backing in support of the action.
The bans will last one day or until the spammers have been given sufficient cool down period (which is likely to entail less time).
There were no excuses for the actions taken.
Protest all you want...

Aren't there regulations to be followed for this stuff though?

The degree and timing clearly indicated an organised and calculated "spam invasion" of the General Section of the forums.
You are aware that we have a spam section in these forums, and yet you chose to fill a non-spam section with spam. We need to make sure that members are aware that this sort of flagrant disregard for the rules will not be tolerated. This has been a trying time for the forum community, and you chose to exacerbate the problem by trying our patience.
GMs and admins will reserve the right to issue bans as they see fit. They obviously saw fit.

These kinds of thing are gonna ruin the forums for everyone.

"I'm glad you didn't dish out warnings or permenent bans" hardly qualifies as backing! Nice try, tho.
And please, in your infinite wisdom, Semper, explain to me how it is okay for general to invade the spam temple with their "stick up their asses" attitude but as soon as the spam temple responds in kind it finds their members banned from the boards! At least those who came into the spam temple were given fair chances to stop, warnings and messages, the spammers had their thread(s) deleted faster than they could post in them and then found themselves banned about 10 minutes after they started!
There is a gross injustice here, Semper, and you're the one who's done it.

At the end of the day, spamming general in such a fashion is discourage. I know you were having fun, and I do sympathize, but I think Semper's decision to issue cooldown bans was sensible and level-headed. Infinitely preferable to simply doling out warnings and permanent bans, which would have been a heavy handed response to the situation.

"General invading into the temple". This concept is confusing. What do you mean by that?
Regardless, the idea of a spam section is that you post whatever you feel like posting (within reason) in it.
The SGW General Section is a section for general SGW issues and business. Spam is not SGW general business.

I disagree, I think most of the spammers would have stopped before getting banned

If this escapade was an attempt to draw attention to what you consider to be unfair moderation within the temple itself, then I'd suggest writing up an official complaint through the proper channels. Rienna writes well. Get her to do it.

Biscuit has already stated he would have stopped after 2 warnings. He was waiting for and expecting the warnings as he's been a member of the forums for so long that he knows the rules and how they work.
Gil-Galad would have stopped after a warning, or even a message on the subject.
Psi Kiya Trist merely posted saying that his prophesy was coming true! He didn't start any threads, he didn't ring lead us into doing this... well... he might have brought it up in msn, but only someone else had. I hardly feel that's a reason to ban his account at all.

No.. Rienna.. that's an outrageous attitude to take. The spam section is a luxury part of the forums, forums that are here for the game.... and that is what general is dedicated to. They're not separate communities and this is a silly idea to uphold. They're different parts of the same community and all follow the same rules.
There were no excuses to even 'reply enkind' and I am sorry to say.. but every bit of bitter feelings and bad attitudes that you've been trying to defend for the past few days because of what Clarkey did have just lost ANY sympathy I can muster at least. This response disappoints me.
and saying in retrospect what they would or would not have done.. is meaningless. How many scammers and other banned people would say that?
As for how they broke the rules and guidelines I followed...
The forum rules wrote:Section 9: Exceptional circumstances.
In the very rare event that a user causes an extremely large disturbance to the community, the administration reserves the right to place a ban on that user until the problem can be resolved. Users banned in such a way will be told and will have the right to appeal to the Ombudsperson.
