"love the net"?!
I hate it. Wholeheartedly, and completely.
Sure, it has it's benefits. Absolutely. But it confronts me with a layer of society I would not associate myself with in real life if I'd get paid for it.
But, more on the subject; censorship = ridiculous.

I'd dearly love to throttle the lobby group responsible for this.
I decide what is appropriate for me to see, not some self-righteous social justice crusade.
*grumbles, and laments his slowly decaying freedom*

I'd have to agree with you on some point, but I didn't have the chance you got, and already met in real life on a regular basis (in secondary and high school...) the filthy scum you probably refer to in your post. Meet the idiocy of earth in the internet is such a problem. But well, there's not only those people, you are there, and so am I!

Unless I'm part of said layer, of course..

this isn't a topic about who is on the net and how much you guys hate the net because what morons are also on the net *looks at JIX and Universe...Radiance...whatever...whoever

*
the net is a bastion of free-speech/will and as such should be protected. any attack or censorship of the net no matter how small should not be welcomed by ANYONE whether you love or hate the net. that's what this topic is all about, the fact we all have the right and freedom to say "hey, i dont like any of you, i'm finding myself another forum/game.
so, regardless of who else is on the net that you dont like, is besides the point, and i would have expected greater input from you guys

I don't agree with censorship...excepted censorship against extremism hate speech and all that crap. For example, locking access to fundamentalist islamist sites from EU I would agree with. However, censorship between legit parties and movements I don't agree with, it's a step to dictatorship. As for porn sites, well, they were here, they are here and will remain here. As long as they aren't related to forbidden stuff or very wrong, such as pedophilia, zoophilia...

hey Jim, hows things mate?
as far as web security goes, i have no idea who could be trusted with that kind of power, i mean who do you trust with the power to shut down sites (regardless of content)? i would much prefer a small (not to small) group of international web experts who could gather evidence of say a terrorist recruitment site or paedophile site-who could gather the information and evidence and then pass that onto Interpol or local/national authorities who would then use due-process to bring about convictions.
that's supposed to be what we have at the moment, but for whatever reason, its not enough. shut down 1 paedophile site and 2 more pop up in its place, so more could be done in that respect but as for the web in general, that should be kept free and protected by law....IMHO.

You mean like I expected better input from you KMA??
Anyways its not really a threat at all, the internet treats censorship like an infection and routes around it. If (and its a big if at that too) the combined efforts of several governments suceed in placing 100% censorship on the internet then it still doesnt matter as someone else will come along and create a new network that will operate as a darknet.

this is stupidly stupid.
i see no reason in censorship of anything, unless it is an actual real threat to innocent people. but the "scum" of the internet is what i enjoy most.
