Respect...

I've just been thinking about this, I was working my way down the alliance rankings and i noticed numerous alliances. Now I'm on PPT right now so i wasn't intending on breaking my PPT unless i saw something which would make it worth my while. I noticed a few alliances and for some reason i thought twice about attacking them, it was the alliance name that made me double check it. I looked at the membership of the alliance and it was shameful. I suddenly realized that a lot of the current 'feared' alliances are bog-standard alliances, filled with over-rated pathetic players who are living on the coat tails of old legends that made up such alliances. Now i wont name any names but i saw numerous alliances which all where like this.

So my question to the SGW world is...

Respect... Is it the alliance? or the players?

Respect for most of the "old guard" is basically only the alliance itself and it's history. (That would be "alliance, not players".)
Sure, respect for the alliance echoes in your respect for the players, but most of the current players don't measure up at all compared to the old guard. Even those of the old guard who still play have decayed, probably under the influence of the new rabble, but it's a shame regardless.

It's not something current players are to blame for.. the game itself changed.. but still, it has been quite the fall.

*shares presumed Vix sentiment*

Its just a concept that really does anoy me, players hiding in alliances with good reputations even though the great players have left and the alliances ain't 'great' any more, players that are hiding in vast empires etc...

Miss the old days.

Respect is nice and all, but leave your naq out without sufficient defense and I'll take it unless I have a no-hit policy with you.
Hell... even with a sufficient defense I may mass it if it's worth it.

Respect and not hitting/massing/farming/**Filtering** have nothing to do with each other.
I can respect dear MaxSterling because of his tremendous achievements (for example) but still mass him whenever I have the chance. That is no disrespect. That is an operational decision; "Do I attack? Yes/No"
This is why two people who are at war, massing and farming each other, can have the utmost respect for the other. Something that, as Vix notes, has been gone from this game for quite some time now. Ah well, things change.. some for the better, others for worse.

Whether or not you attack someone and whether or not you respect them are two different things. Get that, and you'll bring back some of that old school religion.

thats the ideal sittuation
not entire sgw comunity see attacking like a part of game
infact few people see attacking or massing like part of game

Apparently to Vix, it does. From what I got from the OP, it was because of his respect for the alliance that he chose not to come off ppt and take the naq... when whether or not I respect the player, if there is a decent naq hit or raid opportunity... I won't hesitate to take something worthwhile. I respect duderanch as a person and a player, but when he left out 210T naq... I didn't hesitate to come off PPT to take 206T naq from him. The only thing I was thinking was whether or not I would get hit while I was farming him.

I would fight people I respect, but people I consider allies and/or friends I wouldn't. However, if said friends/allies have big amount of naq out due to missed PPT, I will take it...and broker it back! :-)
Yes, even if my commander missed a PPT for the amount duderanch did, I would broker back whole after stealing from my commander the whole amount, if I was around when commander would miss PPT.
That's logical to hit then in such case, despite my no hit policy on allies & friends, as I would broker it back...and avoid others to get it for themselves. :)
I said my commander but that would be true for other friends and allies as well.

I know what you mean Vix, Half the names in the 'great' alliances I dont even know who they are, but..

How much naq is respect worth when farming ?

For some naq hits I resist making out respect for the alliance or a certain person/people in the alliance, but if I saw several Trill that respect would not stop me taking the naq, after all if I didnt someone else would :-D

What I consider respect... respect in this game is different from 'warmongering'. There are players (still out there, but not much heard around here) that I would not dare to attack, just because I know they're skilled and influental in a positive way. That they could retaliate with a proper reason, which will be accepted by everyone.

Some people consider respect 'fear of being massed for whatever BS reason the other can cough up'. Perhaps that's some other way of 'respect', but not the way that is wise, because eventually you'll get others grouping together against you.

Respect also means that warring parties are respectfull against each other, making fun of each other in RP, but still being friendly and being able to laugh together on MSN, the forums etc outside of the RPing zone. Must say that in the past there have been a few Omegans (for example General Hammond (I believe that was his username?)) who seemed threathening in war topics, but were fun to PM/chat with outside.

That made this game great: competition without demeaning behaviour, fun without too much flaming (of course there were trolls around, but less then those days), destruction with a good spirit. Now, it is slightly or more losing this...

thats not neccesarily true. though yes they will mass when you vulture them ive seen them give smaller newer players warnings and advice. its the players that they know know better that get the retaliation.

make sure you dont lump everyone together unless your going to discuss the differences too. OE in perticular since they have made a step towards keeping the new/small players ingame.
