Mod: knight37
Post in question: SGW Cybering (I believe knight37 has posted the content of the topic into a mod only section, as he referenced it in our msn convo)
Ok, so ages back I made a post to the "IRC section" of the forums, for laughs, on an "SGW cybering" topic (using SGW terms with innuendo)... recently been having a discussion on msn with many SGW users about random stuff... the topic turned to that post, i posted a link to it.
Minutes later the link is reposted and I find that knight37 (one of the mods who was in the msn convo) has edited the post because it wasn't PG-13. We argued it over msn, with me asking him to point out which rule the post has "supposedly" broken, since I couldnt see any rule based on PG-13 content. I assumed it was based on the Pornographic rule...and told him that its hardly pornographic and anyone being "aroused" by it (per the definition of the pornographic rule) would be seriously weird.... and he tells me its not based on that rule.
He tells me it is based on the profanity rule.
b. Profanity
The use of profanity on the SGW forums is prohibited at all times. This means swearing, cursing and vulgarity. This includes the use of masking. SGW is a family orientated game and as such the language used must be suitable for children.
I noted that the topic is not profane, and therefore the edit was unjustified.
He then tells me the forum is to be PG-13, based on Jason telling mods that. I searched and could not find anything in the written rules which mentioned PG-13 content.
He then tells me its an unwritten rule.
I noted that the IRC section mod had posted, and also another mod had also posted in the topic, yet done nothing about it.
Also, another user in the msn convo agreed with me, saying the topic was humorous, yet not sexual, and even pointed out that far worse innuendo posts were posted in the "Epic Msn Posts" thread in "This, That, Those" without edit/warning, with and even mentioned little kids not getting the innuendos....and if they did, that they arent "so little after all".
Many mods and even a current admin (Earandil) posted in the "Epic msn posts" topic with far worse innuendo than what my post contained, yet wasn't touched by any of them to filter out any innuendo.
There was more to the argument, but this is where my argument lies.
If a post is to be edited, it should be based on a written rule, not some unwritten rule which a normal user (ie myself) would not know.
I believe the edit was unjustified and unfair, as far worse has been obviously seen by mods and no action taken upon it.
Also I could not have possibly known about an unwritten rule, along with many other members of the SGW community. How are we supposed to follow rules which we don't even know about?
For this topic, I wish to have it either unedited, or to be told the exact written rule which was broken, and/or how it is justified that the topic be edited.
I have no problem with the post being edited if it is justified, but I do have a problem when a post is edited for an unwritten rule.
