first off do they deserve there title


personally i say no as kreator and testament are imho the best thrash bands to play thrash but then the four above did give thrash it's mainstream(ish) kick



second who is the best of thrash

my vote is with kreator and testament how bout you

metallica awesome. haven't listened to the other 3

I think they deserve to be called The Big 4 because they might be mainstream but they are all legends of trash metal and make really good music. IMO Metallica is the best because they really made it happen and worked hard for it...

i was on soniphere Istanbul and it was kinda historical moment: The end of Death magnetic tour in europe, The last show of big 4.. also there were Stone Sour, Alice in Chains, Rammstein, Manowar, Accept, Volbeat... i will post a pic if you like

Metallica are overrated. They give thrash a bad name with alot of their stuff IMO. The others are great, but having heard Kreator and Machine head the big four don't deserve the title. Mainstream doesnt deserve recognition, going mainstream destroys music in general. You want proof?

Slipknot were good. AHiG sucked when they went more mainstream.

Beyonce(yeah i used to like her) now is a pop artist doing **Filtered** dance routines to sell records.

Metallica's old stuff (Same old arguement with them every time) is thrash the way it was meant to be, songs like Battery, Master of Puppets etc.

Having only heard of the other 3 I can't comment much except Slayer on guitar hero was friggin donk.

I think Children of Bodom deserve a spot for being Finnish thrash

So, Metallica IS NOT THRASH! METALLICA IS METALLICA.

It is like CARS and FERARRI, metal And METALLICA, like 70s and LED ZEPPELIN

Whom of listed above could sell 4 albums getting Platinium without a video? ONE was the first video which was over MTV standards but they HAD to play it (it was over 5minutes) due to they were loosing the rating. Who of listed above was injected in the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME?

So don't say that they are overrated.


Metallica is household name. they were in underground, they dig the gold, they are 7th biggest selling act in the rock'n'roll history. and all of the bands listed above paid tribute to metallica, they BOW o metallica. I have seen this with my own eyes.
I'd put PANTERA in big 4 for it could become BIG5, but unfortunately Dime is not anymore...

i was in Bucharest

it was superb

but my best concert in 2010 was AC/DC

I remember watching a youtube clip of dream theater covering a metallica song and john petrucci looked soooo bored.
