body scanners at airports...what do you think?

if reports about these machines are correct, then they can scan your whole body (biometrics i think its called. correct me if wrong please) beneath your cloths in a VERY realistic picture.

i for 1 find that HIGHLY invasive of my privacy and person, and furthermore think that as far as children are concerned, bordering on paedophilia-if not full blown paedophilia.

i would not subject my family to such blatant acts of invasion of privacy, and couldn't careless about the "terrorist" argument side of this debate. i've flown out to Romania on connecting flights since 9/11 and the war on terror started, and have been on a total of 6 planes and didn't once feel scared or worried in the least. so i will not accept the angle of "what about terrorism", well, all i have to say to that is, if your scared about terrorist you can drive, take a boat or join the army and help rid the world of those MI5, CIA and mossad funded groups!

its wrong full stop!

all very good points i failed to address.

its just that i am so mad at the incremental loss of such basic freedoms, and the obvious shift in attitudes towards "presumed guilty till proven innocent".

These however I understand use a type of millimetre-wave radio signal scanning, sometimes in conjunction with backscatter processing?

i think your right, i haven't had a chance to look that deeply into the actual workings of these scanners, but i do remember something about "millimetre-wave radio signals" being mentioned.

PS.

i was hoping to fly out to Cyprus in the summer, see my dad and introduce my kids to their Granddad for the first time.

if i go to the airport and see these machines in use then i refuse to fly....

congrats to the Govt for instilling a fear in me that no terrorist could ever manage.

Psychosomatic responses should be ignored completely. Some people freak out when visiting airports because of the number of people there. We're not going to restrict the number of people on an airport just because some looney throws a tantrum and kills themselves because there are too many people around..
Same thing with scanners. Throw a tantrum because you don't want to be scanned? Fine, there are plenty of other search-options available. For one, you can have your crotch sniffed by a dog, fondled by an idiot cop, scanned by radio waves, and you can just undress and bend over. Brother knows where you keep that bomb..

*grin*

Those body scanners are a tad over the top. Thank Virgil for private jets. :-D

would you subject yourself to having a detailed full body scan?

you think kids should be subjected to that?

I was born naked, I don't have an issue with being scanned.. I just think it's a bit tasteless.
But if you DO scan people, scan everyone, because before you know it these little children will be the next dope-carriers / 'terrorist scum' -real or not-.

Personally, I'll be happy to fly from regional or private airports. :)

How do your kids go to the doctor? :) Just curious, I mean, they have similar restrictions on what they can keep images of, that privacy issue I believe has been documented properly?

I can't help but look at the insane, idiotic level of "security" they have at airports and what not and think "and they call Avenger paranoid?"

That's what I think about it.
