I believe it goes like this....

When you reach plague limit you will start to lose units per turn. I believe it starts at a loss of 25,000 units per turn. These units can be anything like attackers, defenders, spies, AC, miners, lifers, and untrained. And it is random, so you won't know which you lose each turn.

This means when you get to plague, to be in with any chance of continuing to grow you would need several million UP, because 25,000 per turn is 1.2m per day. The higher your army gets the higher the plague deaths go.

If your army suddenly drops below plague (either you sell some or get massed) then your UP returns to normal.

i've never been in plague but that's what I believe happens.

Note: can a mod split Rodderz question and my answer off to Q&A?

Somewhere when your total army size, excluding mercs, is at 80-100% of the 'surely the disease will strike your lands'-size (see the Training page ingame below your raw UP for the current numbers), randomly units in your army will start to die. A common misconception is that the UP decrease. Effectively, this is right, but technically it isn't - for example, you'll find out suddenly after a turn you'll need to replace super attacks, or spies (just one of the possibilities) since they died due to the plague.
The nearer you come to the plague limit, the higher your % of deaths will be. Of course there's a certain limit to the max % of soldiers that die, but noone has grown fast enough yet to find out at how much % that is :-D Why? Because at a certain point your effective UP is 0 or negative, because your UP cannot cover the amounts of deaths anymore. And since the kind of army size we're talking about raiding has also become impossible, you just have to do with it... :P

@ Clarkey: almost right, but it is %, not set numbers

Yes can we split the thread? Thanks.

@Ben, I was under the impression (from my BETA account) that you start losing units the moment you hit plague limit (as per the figure on the training page) and not when you get to within 80-100% of it?

P.S. yes I always think of it as UP decreasing, but you're right it stays the same.

Clarkey, stories I heard and have seen of people suggest that at a certain point before the plague cap you already start to lose units - the exact point of it seems to be relative random though, or some strange formula.

Well my army (not including mercs) is 96% of the plague figure, therefore i only have 4% to go until I reach the plague number, and i never lose units yet.

I have some more confirmed explanation of how plague works.

As Ben previously said, you lose a % per turn due to plague, not a set number.

The calculation I have discovered is 0.00005

So let me explain. This is the plague threshold currently: 487,397,260

note: if you total population size is greater than 487,397,260 disease will surely strike your lands.

So if we do 487,397,260 * 0.00005 = 24369.863 = 24370 (rounded up).

Therefore when you enter plague at current threshold you would be losing 24,370 army per turn.

Now, you lose army from anything like super & normal attackers, strike mercs, super & normal defence and mercs, miners, lifers, spies, AC and untrained units. But it is not random. The way it is done is you lose 0.00005 of each, if you have something trained.... so take this as example....

Away Team 0
Super Soldier 1,600,000 (1,600,000 * 0.00005 = 80 ----- you lose 80 super soldier)
Attacking Mercenaries 0
Home Guard 0
Super Guards 800,000 (800,000 * 0.00005 = 40 ----- you lose 40 super guards)
Defending Mercenaries 800,000 (800,000 * 0.00005 = 40 ----- you lose 40 defence mercs)
Untrained 0
Miners(Lifers) 483,204,664 (224,851,385) (483,204,664 * 0.00005 = 24,160 ----- you lose 24,160 miners/lifers)
Untrained Mercenaries 0
Covert Ops 1,000,000 (1,000,000 * 0.00005 = 50 ----- you lose 50 spies)
CounterIntelligence Agents 0
Total Fighting Force 487,404,664
Plague Threshold (total units): 487,397,260
Plague Death in Realm!: - 24,370 unit/turn

80 + 40 + 40 + 24,160 + 50 = 24,370 (same number as Plague Death in Realm above).

I hope that helps anyone that had questions regarding the plague. :D
