¡Buenos días! Dober dan! God dag! Bonjour! Goeie dag!
Greetings.
This year marks the 19th World Cup tournament in South Africa. What better way to get involved than to play fantasy football alongside the tournament?
The fantasy football tournament will be held through FIFA.com in association with McDonald's, and all are welcome to register here.
Please proceed to add yourself to the TGW league once you are registered here if you can't find it. The league name is Gatewars and the pin is 60139-14216.
PLEASE NOTE THAT TEAM SELECTION IS NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL JUNE 4TH.
There are plenty TGW'ers who already know what fantasy football is and how to play but here is a simple Q & A for all new comers.
What is Fantasy Football?
You are given 'x' amount of money to spend on a squad of football/soccer players that comprises of players from different teams, and of different values based on their current projected value on the actual open market. Depending on where you play Fantasy Football, the rules and figures can/could vary ie. the projected worth of a player OR how many players of the same team (or in this case nationality) you can put in your team will change.
The object of the game?
The object of Fantasy Football is to piece together the best possible team you can with your 'limited' financial restrictions. These individuals will score points based on how they perform in actual games - in this instance in the World Cup. You must be careful to ensure that you aware of injuries and/or suspensions that will prevent your player/s from acquiring points. If this happens you must transfer or substitute the player for another before the game.
How are the players scored exactly?
A comprehensive points scoring system can be found here.
The inevitable winner will be the person who collects the most points throughout the tournament. Bear in mind that as the group stages finish, there will be players with no further opportunity to score points if their team has been knocked out of the tournament, so choose wisely.
