my friend is trying to make me his commander, but it doesn't work.

it seems to work when he tries it with other players
and i've got the 'accept officers'-box flagged.
i also sacrificed most of my troops for the SS, because i thought this was the problem => didn't work either ^o)

we share an internet connection through a router, could this cause the problem?

doesn't the router give us a different ip?
on the LAN it does.

note: the button 'make this player your commander' doesn't even appear.

Not quite true, when you log in the game "stores" your IP for an hr, if someone else with the same IP logs in and tries to set you as commander it will block them doing so for an hr, but after that hr it should let you do it as long as the other account is still offline.

However, another drawback is even if you DO set him as your commander by waiting an hour, any time you guys are online within that same 1 hr rule it will stop either of you gaining the officer/commander boosts.

If you only play on the 1 PC or happen to be on the same college network and get reported as the same IP due to a shared proxy server you will gain very little by way of benefit unless at least 1 of you only logs in a few times a day.

A router is made to connect a network through one internetconnection...
On LAN side you have several IP-adresses but on WAN-side you only have one IP-adress...

I even advise NOT to let your friend make himself your officer via a chat-cafe because an officer with the same IP as his commander will not give UU to commander and no naq from commander towards officer
