I like asking questions. Because its always better to be sure. Im sure most mods and admins out there at the moment know this already .

Ok so i want clarification on one particular rule because i really dont understand it.

c. Abuse / Racism
Members of the SGW community are required to speak courteously to others. Personal attacks on members are not tolerated. This includes comments about one’s sex, gender, skin colour, religion or cultural heritage.

Consequence:
Minor infringements such as throw away comments, may be ignored or a polite note from a moderator will be issued requesting the user tone it down. More serious cases will result in the issuing of warning points. Very serious comments will be given more warning points. This will be judged with input from the Ombudsperson, Forum Administrators and Moderators.

So if you do a "throw away comment" such as...calling somebody a prick, then it will be ignored or you might get a "polite note". Is this a verbal warning or a "polite note"?
If a throw away comment is ignored, such as...calling somebody a prick, does that mean its ok and you can keep doing it? If so then where does the "Members of the SGW community are required to speak courteously to others." come in?

Is this rule actually enforced? What does it even mean? What happens if we dont speak courteously to people? Because I see everywhere people being discourteous to others.

It also means other things aswell.

This is why we need a damn rule, that says this this and this are allowed, this this and this are not, if you say them you are warned, umm.... but it won't happen as some people think some words are acceptable, yet some people think that they are not personally, calling me a prick will not get you hit, as truthfully at times I am lol, but calling me other things will, prick is not necisarilly a bad word, but it can be used as one... so I suppose... IDK rofl, I suppose IMO it should have stayed warned, but... at the same time I think the N word should be banned to... but it's not so My opinion doesn't really matter much lol People prob didn't even read this XD

Word's can't hurt people if others saysb different then just being pethetic and dramatic over nothing.

it is actually quite easy to insult someone seriously, without using any words that are even borderline... but we stand with wakko on this case, he put it nicely...

So if you insult somebody and they are offended (doesnt matter what word you use) then your breaking the rules?

its unfortunately not as simple as that... it would have been very easy to enforce, but the problem is that no matter what is written, chances are, someone will get offended...

to give an example...
this statement: "whale meat tastes delicious" will greatly offend animal activists... to them, even considering to eat whale is an insult...

So the courteuos rule should remain in the back of our heads and we should just mull over it every so often?

Ive had mods and admins offend me does that mean they get a warning?

we've realized that the rule in question will need to be reworked... so we wont say anything definitive quite yet...

I understand its obviously not the best written rule

it was a good rule back when it was written, but the forums have changed since then...
