Well today if most don't know was a important day in the history of Ireland and Britain. Today A British Prime Minister apologized for actions of The British army on bloody Sunday. I do not wish for a public debate on those events it is to sensitive a subject however I wish just to say as an Irish Catholic to be part of people actually cheering a British Prime Minister (this may be the first time it has happened period apart from gladstone) and meaning it for his words on the subject were statesman like and more importantly show me and others that peace and reconciliation can happen. One commentator said it was a speech worth remembering for peace of perhaps the century to date what it means to me is coming from my background that the impossible can happen

it was a hell of a speech and David Cameron earned my respect and believe it or not many others as he is a Conservative leader who were in charge for 99 percent of the troubles.

More importantly he stepped up and showed he can be a heavyweight if only for a day it should be a day he should be proud as its likely only day he will be cheered by people of the nationlist irish community and has healed alot of wounds mentally among the people here

theres the link of the main part of the speech

Cameron rocks. For now. But yes, as a person, I think he actually means what he says. :)
Congratulations Britain. ;)

Now kick Obama hard enough not to kill your pensions, and you'll get the main prize.

well i dont know if people wish to know this but the fact that people not living here don't know the significance of this was like Obama becoming the first African american president to the irish people that a british PM came out as strongly as he did in his speech its one of those you thought you'd never see moments in history and another was him being cheered by irishmen lol

Oh please, we didnt need to apologise for that, much like we didnt need to apologise for slavery etc etc that the world has demanded we do.

Typical stupidity but then what can you expect in todays world.

*And for reference we didnt need to apologise for it as the Army did exactly what was asked of it by the NI police force (more acurately the paratroopers on patrol who called for manpower, who were the police at the time) both of which (those on the ground & those who reinforced them) were under fire from molotov cocktails (well at least some sort of implemented firebomb)

EDIT: Not to mention other stuff that was thrown at them.

And the point is the speech is apologising for an event we dont need to apologise for & why we dont need to apologise.

Cameron is showing a very weak side in doing so which should be obvious

Despite the authors intentions for there not to be a discussion on the necessity for this apology. I feel it is inevitable that the thread will progress along this path, as such this belongs in the discussion/debate area

Was Cameron even born when Bloody Sunday happened ? He dont look old enough.

Now if the UK have officially apologised, what about the IRA, they killed far more innocent people. Wheres their apology ?

Also the US, who's citizens funded the IRA's terror campaign, and the US government who refused to make terrorist fund raising in the US illegal, wheres their apology for being accessories to murder ?

I hate it when people refer to this time as the 'troubles', criminals and murders who turn to blowing things up, torture, intimidation of their own people, religious persecution and premeditated mass murder to try and get their way are a lot more than 'troubles'. And their are many people still living with disabling injuries and grieving for lost loved ones while those responsible walk free, it makes me sick.
