Mass of the Human Soul?

Ive been reading and finding that when scientists measured the mass of dying person, they saw a change in mass after death.
after this experiment was done, lots and lots of ppl have tried to reproduce this and there has been some sucess, and some not so much of a sucess.. there were lots of inconsistencies
if there was a soul, it would be in the form on energy.. and lots of energy is needed to make 1 gram of mass.. so if the soul was tiny, then technically it wouldnt be measurable by a mass scale would it be..??
What do you think about this? Do you know any project that worked and got accurate results on this? is it safe to assume that there is a soul, or there is no soul?

I
believe that what we call "soul" is nothing more than complex electrical and chemical reactions in our brain. and as such, does not have a mass, and is not Immortal.

the fact that air is likely to leave the lungs
as well as the fact that your bowels empty
easily explain the loss in mass

21 grammes. It's .. what's the word.. an urban myth.

I heard somewhere that some tribe in a cold place, vague I know, think it was North Europe somewhere, anyways they used to cut open the chests of their dead to release the soul, of course what they actually saw was steam because in a cold climate the heat of the internal organs being exposed makes a little cloud rise from inside the body.
As for measuring the mass of some as they die to judge if something like a soul has left the body, what a crock. I dont believe in souls but even if I did the whole point is that the soul is meant to be non-physical.

I remember one of my physics profs once talking about how storing potential energy, like say by tensing your muscles, has a direct correlation to your mass - along the lines of e=mc^2. I'm not sure if this was a hypothetical discussion or an actual fact. Perhaps then, a living body which stores more potential energy is actually heavier than a lifeless one which rapidly loses its potential energy without recovering it.

It doesn't sound like 'solid science' to me. There are far too many variable to control for. For example, a change in mass before and after death could be reflected by changes in metabolic rate before and after death. Certain drugs have varying effects on human systems as well, as do health conditions and hundreds of other things.
Heck, we really know so little about the human body it confuses me as to how something like this could even be attempted. I'm going to find if there's a journal article published that might attempt to describe this study.

Science leads us only further from reality. If somebody wishes to believe a soul leaves the body upon death then it is so. Its nice to believe in.
Faith is an art, and art is better than science in a million ways.

Some research articles would be a good read on this topic, I believe some early projects were done in the 1800s and they carried out to modern era with better technology.
although this did make me think

We all know that there is an equilibrium of metabolic processes in our body. and yes it is true that these processes occur at different rates or some even stop when we die. So yes this does make sense, but these scientists have said that they used very nice technology so that nothing escapes. It was an isolated system, energy or mass both can not escape. also note that their scale was ultra low.. and they did get a mass.
the result of 21 grams was done by scientists in the 1900s and was not really proven effective, but the recent projects have shown a very tiny mass change.
I will also post any articles that i come across about these. The info that im telling you guys comes from a Dan Brown book... the lost symbol. and these is researched book so it cant be false, and even it was, its still something to look into.

a Dan Brown book is not a reliable source...not by a mile
also
a perfect isolated system is a thermodynamic theory, not something which is actually achievable (with current technology at least)

As yes, the old ignorance is bliss argument. You might be right, maybe we would all be happier believing in fairies at the bottom of our gardens, and pixies in the parks, leaving milk & cookies out for Father Christmas and lets face it, saying a prayer is probably as useful as writing to an politician or playing the lottery

energy doesn't have mass so........
Presuming your premise to be correct knowledge; that there were 21 grams uncounted from following proper scientific experimentation.
what leads you to believe this missing mass would represent a soul?
edit: well energy does have mass...in some contexts and not in others... but energy mass equivalence doesn't apply to what the OP is discussing.
it's really complicated. mass and energy are closely related but thinking of terms of mass as the representation in weight of physical matter, then no.... but the concept of "mass" is a lot more complicated than that.

indeed thats why i wanted to know if any real research was done on this
Thriller wrote:what leads you to believe this missing mass would represent a soul?
well the book did say they made an ultra good system to measure it.. so what else can it be? considering that nothing can escape

its highly unlikely that there is any research being done on this...simply because its relatively unimportant and not of any real scientific interest to many people
as for the "ultra good system" used, there is no way to create the perfect system required for there to be no transfer of energy from the system.
