people are setting brokers, but im not getting a message about them
and i dont often check my private brokers to see if there are any there

maybe 25 in outbox
9 in saved
im getting other messages fine, just not "player 1 has brokered xxx turns for xxx UUs"

The "You have a new broker request" ones you mean?
Cause the other ones are when the trade is done
