just a random stat...of the sgw database server

since the outage, the server has been up 1hour, 4 minutes, 52seconds ....
this is the stats :)

Query statistics: Since its startup, 1,070,737 queries have been sent to the server.

TOTAL: 1,071,000

ø per hour: 990,400

ø per minute 16,510

ø per second 275.11

this is normal, btw, not some one time deal :) -- numbers were silly big before outage, as the server had been up for 300 days or so.

I take it the queries are the page requests, and not the amount of unique connections? :)
*wonders how silly big the number would have been of those 3 years*

db query requests - there might be 1 per page, or 10 per page, depending on the page...
base for example gets you & your stats (1 ) , planets (2), weap stuff (3), alliance wars (4), etc etc.

Heh. I wonder what the mean CPU usage is

during normal use the db server uses 10 to 50 percent of a single CPU.
it has 4 effective CPU (dual-dualcore).
So it peaks around 50/400 or 12.5% total useage :) --although, on turnchange, it can go 5x that... for a few milliseconds at a time.

it helps having a good enough server, and a separate DB server so the web sessions/etc do not affect everyone' s performance.

when we have 'lag issues' it is almost always a sql limitation - ie table lock on query X while query A,B,C....etc all wait for query X

Never too late to learn!

Just out of curiosity, how big is the database? How many mb or gb?
And the size of the combined .php files?

few Teras i would assume. Would take a heavy load, I'm taking a shot at the Phps and saying it would be 7gb??

*chuckles* No way. It's not that big.
It's being called a lot, does not necessarily contain a lot.

I would guess maybe 100 Mb for php and 500-1024 mb for the database, for main only, not the other stuff.

Would definatly not say terabyte tho

One way to minimize the DB queries, or updates would to be PUT A MULTIPLIER on the ALLIANCE BANK upgrades..

I can tell you many an ALLIANCE was smashing their keyboards spending NAQ on certain upgrades - a multiplier, even of 5 - 10 would have reduced this by, well 1/5th or 1/10th :)

Hehe. The PHP should be no bigger than 5mb.
And I'm guessing the db is around about 600-800mb.
My reasoning:
A KoCC is around 2MB I doubt admin has doubled it. So a reasonable estimate would be 3, maybe 3.5mb.
A KoCC db for 10 users is around 3kb. For SGW now, it would be more like 7kb for 10 users. Which is about 560mb, but round that to 600mb just to be safe though there would be quite a few new tables I'd imagine, so give it another 200mb lee-way.
The only thing which I consider to be 'huge' for SGW, is the bandwidth. Which, tbh, I have no idea.

hard to say, as the 'core' db is about a gig, while the log files, etc are 10gig -- but i store them in parts in separate dbs -- moved out of main db daily.
i try to keep the 'running db' lean...
there are a couple hundred files, ranging 1k to 100k ... again, try to keep lean. i could go with far less files, but hten load times are more.
