Links to third party sites containing masked words

This is to follow on from femme's post containing a link to a video on facebook that "spoke" a filtered word on these forums.
I didn't want to continue the argument in the Oms section as this is not about that but about third party sites.
Femme's post being warned for sends out a clear message that when you post a link to a third party site that the person has to read the entire page to ensure there is no content that would ordinarily be masked on forums here.
So this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=88&t=170815 falls foul of the rules on this forum. I've reported that thread and therefore expect a warning to be issued like femme got.
So to what level do we have to go to ensure cleanliness when posting links to off site content?

I think it's a bit far, I mean look at the music what are you listening to site, have they policed all of those?
and those don't even need to be signed in... They are right to the song... I think it's unfair, if that was the case, we all deserve warnings that have posted bad words on that part...

The situation between femme's post and mordacks post is exactly the same. The offending word may not be in the videos on both but they are on the location of the page the link sends us to.
Femme didn't post a link to a video, she posted a link to a page on facebook that contained a video amongst many other things.
Mordack didn't post a link to a video, he posted a link to a page on youtube that contained a video amongst many other things.
On femme's link i watched the video and head a masked word (i laughed) i carried on watching the rest of the video and looked at a few of the comments posted.
On Mordack's link I watched the video and looked at a few of the comments posted and saw a masked word.
Exactly 100% the same situation.

Punishing people on this site for content on other sites is ludicrous of course. As long as it's a rule to police it though, I will continue to (I feel I should point that out). That site could change at any moment, it's not THIS SITE, you have absolutely no idea what could happen. Are we going to hawk the comments on YouTube videos for masked words? How about the comments on Facebooks? What about the advertisements on these webpages, must we read those? Since the person linked one webpage would it be safe to click all links on the link the user made and follow those too? They did it link it of course... and no one would have seen it if they didn't

.
I think he ONLY time someone can be warned for a link is if it's to an image, only an image, or a webpage centered on an image. Then Moderate based on the ONLY the image the page is centered on, or the sole image linked. If you're going to listen to videos to warn people, warn them for text on that page then you're going way overboard and it would be stupid to stop there if you wanna be like that then you're going to have to be 100% thorough when going through the page to be fair to everyone.

Posts on this forums can be edited any time by poster aswell.
Does that mean we should not enforce the rules because their posts can change?
Would it be ok in your opinion if I posted a link to an audio file that consist entirely of swearing?
As it is no image it would be ok for you?

Would it be okay? Yes, it'd be okay with me. You wanna go through every YouTube link posted and listen carefully for filtered words? You wanna read every word on the pages linked and look for filtered words? I'm on Moderator on these forums, and I shouldn't be tasked with investigating other webpages. I think images is as far as we should go...

That's where our opinions differ.
Having a link on the forums that leads to a page containing porn pics or other content not suitable for minors is clearly our responsibility.
Thus I prefer a slightly bigger workload for the mods and expect them to look at every link that is posted here and remove it if deemed inappropriate.

This would also mean if I were to link to a page that had an essay of like 5,000 words mods would have to read it because some users may find the topic of the essay intersting yet get their eyes burned out because of a bad word.

Yes Clarkey, I expect them to.
Being a mod is more than posting with a coloured font.

But they won't will they. be honest, Mods won't sit there reading a 5,000 page essay just because a user posted a link to it.
Here's an example (10,000 word essay).....
http://www.scribd.com/doc/16630239/Deci ... word-essay I hope a mod is going to read it all.

It's clean Clarkey

Well i wouldn't purposely post one that isn't.
I guess you used the search function..... but.... what if the word was masked on that site as well? Will you expect mods to search every eventuality of a masked swear word?
