a question for those of you that are religious and believe in all-powerful deities...

Can an all-powerful god create a problem he (or she or it) cannot solve?

If yes, is he (or she or it) all-powerful if he (or she or it) cannot solve it?

If no, then how is he (or she or it) all-powerful?

Interesting paradox, i would no they cant and thus they are all-powerful because nothing can stand in their way.

Love the paradoxes on this.

Answer to the questions. Simply put, He can do anything. Paradox or no paradox. He is not limited to 'nature' or our 'laws' .

Nice, and trixsie, either way their is someone the god cant do, I like it

Id have to say that if an all powerful god existed he/she/it would want to create something he/she/it could not control or solve. I hate to use Trek refs, but look to the Q for an example of how boring omnipotence would be once you have done everything and seen everything, an challenge or unpredictable sequence of events would be the ultimate desire of such a god.

then they are not all-powerful, for there is something they cannot do.

Yah we went over this before, except it involved a rock....

The pradox comes from our lack in comprehesion of infinity.

If one were to be all powerful and all knowing, could unsolvable problems even exist.

If they can't exist does that limit reality somehow? for that which does not exist cannot be understood as having the property of being "real".

If there is an all-powerful God there can’t be a problem it can't solve, and if there is a problem they can't solve there can’t be an all-powerful God. So the question contradicts itself really and there is no answer.
A paradox as thriller said. :-k
Another question along the same lines is could an all powerful god create a being more powerful than itself?

obviously the god is all powerful. And yes he might make mistakes, but nothing he cant solve.

god makes mistakes becuase he is bound to rules, much like ancients in sg1. For example, they must fulfil their human's wishes after enough good deeds have been done. And this leads to things that god does even though he does not want to. he has no choice because of the rules made by himself.

but to fix this, he finds a way around his own rules. so therefore god never makes mistakes. he makes ill decisions because of his rules, but quickly fixes them.

Basically, that's a better version of the argument:

1.God either can do X, or can't.
2.If God can do X, he is not all-powerful.
3.If God can't do X, he is not all-powerfull.
4.Therefore, God is not all-powerful.

X might be making an armor he can't destroy, making a stone so heavy he can't lift it or something else.
I guess one of the more common responses is that he is bound by logic, meaning that he isn't really all-powerfull. It's just a term used to say that he can do much more than we can do.
