they dont *just* work on heat.
in any case, if i had a touchscreen on something, I'd want a backup control system, like a small keypad. phone wise: iPhone vs N97, I'd take an N97

Agreed, I prefer the N97 over iPhone anyday.

Dunno what exactly iPods work on, but I've got a Samsung Omnia HD (Also known as I8910 in some countries) which is, of course, a touch-screen mobile and it doesn't work only on touch but when you touch it, you've gotta touch it with something that conducts electricity therefore it doesn't work if you use plastic sticks or guitar picks (something that is integrated with Nokia - especially Xpress Music), but you've gotta use your fingers or some sort of material that conducts electricity. The Japanese solved the problem with low temperatures in the winter and their mobiles requiring something that conducts electricity by using something like mini-hot dogs - meat conducts the electricity so you can easily wear gloves or anything to keep your fingers warm, and then use a mini sausage or smth like that to type on your phone
My mobile works if I've got thin woollen gloves during winter so I've got no problems with using it even when it's cold hehe

The iPhone blows hard.
For me, a good phone has a keyboard. BlackBerry ftw!
Touch screen wise, yeah, the N97.

so yeah, Byrnes, you shouldn't have a problem using the phone in the cold. that's one design success of the iphone/pod, among a myriad of failures.

Thats why a hacked iphone 3g has done me well for the last 2 years - wont bother upgrading it for the next 2 with the price and the crappy upgrades included plus the 3g has everything the 4g (with exception of FaceTime) has with the hacked OSX installed and access to 100s of thousands of third party apps via cydia
Iphone has pressure sensors as well as heat so it shoud still work - its calibrated by the width of the object touching it and the pressure applied per unit area so thats how it can work with fingers and not with pens or sticks
Well recommend an iphone if hacked and an 3g or 3gs (iphone 4 is full of flaws at the moment) - cheaper and you get more and without the flaws of the 4g - altho i do like the new blackberry's coming out I must say

Nokia fullstop
They may not be the fastest or best but they are tanks, I can't count on my hands how many times my N70 survived being cast across the room into the wall when it lagged or had a connection error with an unstable application. But it still works. Lets hope my new one lives up to the pedigree
5230 Touch screen thingy ma-jig, inbuilt gyro so I can play those maze games with the ball, apparently it can make phone calls and send smses too

this.
before I got my Moto W375, my brother and I used an old nokia 1112, we swapped phones a few times, burned it, threw it off of 8 metre high rooves, ran over it in cars, scraped it on cars tires as the car was moving at speed, put labels all over it, burned it again, and the damn thing still works XD

I like my Samsung Saga. Half touch screen, half QWERTY keyboard. Full data plan on Verizon for $30/month. Not bad for me at all.
