Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg thinks we are all a bunch of dumb **Filtered** for trusting him with our info (which you can read about here:
Link removed due to profanity ) and now there's this:
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/blogs/editors_ ... 69330.htmland with all the paedophile incidents stemming from websites poor security, i personally think Facebook should be shut down until such time as they can prove they are not only secure but trustworthy...not likely to happen.
anyways, i find all this VERY disturbing, which is why i have deleted my Facebook account and sent a message to Mr Zuckerberg informing him i am no dumb **Filtered**.
thoughts please.

actually, you can. once you put the request in to delete they inform you it takes 2 weeks for it to be completely gone. prior to the 2 week deadline, you can login at any time and cancel the delete request. after 2 weeks your account cannot be retrieved....
is that all you have to say about this disgusting man and his site?

To be honest i was expecting this, its no surprise that people that got rich want something more than just cash. Control, pride and being better than the other guy by controlling him.

Oh no your account only just gets 'deactivated' they already have your personal information stored and kept.
Your account wont be there, however, the information is already taken.
So, you cannot delete your account in its entirety.
On topic,
when does user responsibility come into play?
The user did sign terms and conditions which i am sure everyone reads.
The user ultimately decides what information they share and to whom.
For example, my brother is my friend on facebook, but ive blocked him from seeing anything that is posted or I post on my wall. Or any pictures, essentially everything. To him my profile is blank.
I mean it is just a social networking site, can used for good and evil alike.
I.E Take Guns for example. Do you blame the gun for killing a person or the shooter who wielded it?
If the gun didnt exist, there would be anther medium the murderer would use.
Apply the logic to this discussion.
Pedos get information of Childs address or make contact with children via social networking sites.
However, pedos would still do the same without them.
Pros and Cons rank up the same.
You can secure your profile i.e who you talk to.

I'm going to stop you right there. Who's fault is it, the provider or the user?
People make the conscious choice to use Facebook. They are not forced, the information provided is not forced, they choose to provide it.
Just because the world is full of morons, does not mean something needs to be locked away until people aren't morons. So no, I do not agree with that AT ALL. (I personally don't use facebook, simply cause I don't need/care enough to)

If I was smart enough to make something stupid and get mega rich from it, knowing it was a stupid/bad idea I would also think the people using it are morons. Like the infamous "snuggie", I mean what the **Filtered**. It is a god damn bath robe with backwards arms, anyone who buys one is a fool -_-
[KMA]Avenger wrote:anyways, i find all this VERY disturbing, which is why i have deleted my Facebook account and sent a message to Mr Zuckerberg informing him i am no dumb **Filtered**.
who cares? If people wan to use it let them. Its their problem. You don't like it, don't use it, don't let your kids use it. Why force your views onto others? This type of debate happens every time something online and social attracts a lot of kids and people. Like with the wireless thing on the nintendo ds. Why the hell should nintendo be blamed for dumbass kids giving their age, sex, and location out to complete strangers? It is not nintendo's fault. How about the parents get off their fat asses and teach their kids to be smart

(not directed at anyone, don't know any of you to make such a comment)
Facebook is the new myspace. Give it time and it will fade away just like its predecessor and a new one will take its place.
obviously, my comments were my opinions and mine alone. i'm not forcing anything on anyone, which is why i posted links, gave my opinions of the story and then politely asked for thoughts.
as for putting the burden on the user, doesn't a "social" networking site have any obligation for security of users simply because we agree to terms?
my Facebook account had very little info as i was the account holder and none of my kids or my Mrs had access, but even though i gave little info, i still gave them info, and just for the record, i'm pretty sure mr Zuckerbergs T&C doesn't state they will sell your info or that he thinks we are dumb **Filtered** for giving him info, because if it did, nobody would have ever opened an account.

Well youd have to read the terms.

I did join Friends Reunited when it first appeared but only out of curiosity about what happened to old school friends, not because I actually wanted to speak to them again.
But I have never and will never join other social networking sites like Facebook, my RL friends I speak to and see regularly, my internet ( Gaming ) friends I communicate with on game forums.
I really dont see the point of Facebook, people adding 'friends' they dont even know, checking out people who are friends of friends or family, ex partners, work colleagues. My mate caught his 11 yo daughter on it pretending to be 16, if she can pretend to be 5 years older, what sicko's are pretending to be younger ? Dangerous !!!!
IMO it should be called SpyBook or LyeBook.

hmmm interesting topic G....I`ll give it a go
I got an FB acount myself and got it for the soul purpose of being connected to my friends, colleagues from work, friends and generally people I meet abroad which I want to stay in touch with...
I find chatting services more dangerous than facebook itself. why??? because chat services are open to all and anyone that wishes to see your profile can see it, there is no limitation like on FB....
On facebook only my friends can see my photos, info etc....if you are not my friend, you can`t see **Filtered** as with chatting services, it`s much more easier since your profile is accessible for anyone as well your albums if you don`t have them locked...100`s of people can view your profile without you doing anything about it....
WE got a very well known and often visited chat service called pokec.sk ( in translation chat.sk)....
it is accessible for anyone, the registration is free and you don`t have to pay anything and you can find people from age 9-60 years, literally.
You have various rooms so you can pick which one suits you best ( by the city you live, interests or generally rooms where people want to hook up)
I would be more afraid if my kid was on such a chat service than on FB because for instance, the above mentioned chat service is daily visited by more than 100 000 various people and anyone from them has access to you as with FB the only ones that have access to you are people you let (your family, friends etc) and even they can be limited if you choose to limit them....
check this out:
http://www.vimby.com/blog/wp-content/up ... _20071.pngI read an article about it yesterday...
Basically it says that google has close relations with the CIA and other american spy agencies, distributes the key technology to CIA as well to the US army, google even lets them use their servers for project Intellipedia which is the main online platform for CIA to gather, analyze and share information between their spies and agents.
The mapping software that the CIA and the US army use for their invasions, occupactions and for the interference of the internal affairs of other sovereign states was designed by a google subbranch - the same one that designed google earth
There is no point in hiding G coz the Big brother is always looking, besides, I would find more important protecting my children from such things as chat services where generally any psycho or pedofil has access to them than FB that actually protects them with the ability not to add a complete stranger to your friends thus protecting themselves as well

I can't read the link because a certain someone with a stick shoved too far up his ass removed it.
Ahem, but I digress. Anyone that puts their real info up on facebook is indeed a dumb **Filtered**.
