RAINBOW - Nisha Rokubo No Shichinin

I very highly recommend this anime. Watch a few episodes, and you'll see exactly what I mean. It's one of the best animes I've seen in a very long time. It rates very high on my list.

Description: The story of are seven teenagers in 1955, who have to learn to live together in the same hold in the reformatory of Shio. Confined in a hall where suffering and humiliation are daily, they are waiting for a ray of hope in a dark, incarcerating world. It follows their life together and how they move on afterwards.

That's sort of true, however, I believe the other parts of the needed to be shown.

It showed every single dream they had carved into the tree, and how they attempted to either achieve or did achieve them. :P
