So yer as tittle says what r they for and what is the point in them??

There is no point, Jason may have had a reason at some point, a future update, but he never did anything with them. Right now the only purpose they serve is more AP (Ascension Points) for when you ascend. That means you can convert them to points on your ascended account to use on upgrades. This amount is rather miniscule though when compared to how much you can gain from farming at even an amateur level.

Short version; they do nothing.

On another note... they are fun to collect, I had 4 billion or so recently.

One thing I could never figure is if you can use them as trained units when you asend or maybe untrained units and loose less units in the asention process..

I don't believe Untrained Mercs can be used in any useful purpose like that, Miners are the ones you'd use to lessen trained units and UU you need and such. You'd have to ask someone who is more of an expert on ascending though.

also i just spent 1.5trill buying 1bill of them for nothing haha wow go me lol well i can always sell and get 900bill back or like u said gain a few extra AP out of them well thank u again got clearing my mind that they do nothing

If i remember correctly, they used to be used in army size, but not anymore.

they used to act as both attack and def they were the cheap rubbish option now they don't count for anything other than a freebie to your officers to sell
