Reuters: US Senate panel passes bill against piracy websites

Peoples thoughts on this? I'm gonna go out there and hope everyone agrees this bill should NOT be passed. I think it might get passed though because it has so much support from big companies and groups, like those named in the article. It's a simple step from censoring this to in the near future a new bill being introduced to add to this to censor other things, and more and more.

I am a bit surprised and concerned that it made it out of the judiciary committee.

Well I'm not surprised! We'll see how it does on the Senate Floor... 19-0 in the committee surprised me though given that people like Al Franken are on the Senate Judiciary Committee and he WAS an advocate of Net Neutrality... **Filtered** politicians lol.

its kinda what happens when your president promises he will give 5 days for representatives and voters to have time to read and understand bills then turns around and rushes them to make a decision on a 1,000 page bill in less then one day

if it passes the commitee that well it usually will pass the floor pretty easy

not surprising "they" are going after the net run a search on what Jay Rockefeller said about the net). they" funded it's creation but the masses use it for things "they" didnt intend we use it for.

this is only the thin end of the wedge, if this bill passes then kiss the net as we know it bye bye.

the point i was trying to make is that the net as we know it today is actually under attack from politicians and big business all over the world...Guild wants to "hi 5" because he thinks that this crap is only going on in the states, its not just the states. we have politicians in the UK and all over the EU trying to get similar bills passed that would effectively kill the web in its present form.

if this passes in the states it will be law all over the world, it will merely be a matter of time....


FURTHERMORE...if "they" have to stage a cyber attack to get these laws passed they will do just that.

the only problem with an internet takeover is that theres people out there (not on the goverments payroll) that would make it absolute hell for them to attempt to do
