When you ascend im aware you keep 75% value of assault weapons however is the same said with defence weapons or do I need to sell them first? If not then do I simply ascend and find the money there?

nah it works for both attack and defence

So do I literally just leave the weapons as they are?

yes and the naq/money is left in your bank after the ascention
