Question on rules about vulgarity...

Yes, I have a question about the rules regarding vulgarity...

LMAO is okay...

:smt076
This one is at least quite vague, it doesn't imply a specific word, or thought,
only that one is mad enough to be shouting things not appropriate to spell out... :-)

L-M-F-A-O is not okay, and is filtered...

:smt097 :smt098
These are not only considered okay,
they are given special symbols,
probably by the creators of these forums:

Powered by phpBB © 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007 phpBB Group.
Designed by STSoftware for PTF.

but in any case, not removed or prohibited by the SGW Forums management or staff...

so that even non-English speakers can truly understand how much anger and hatred is inside one's vulgar mind just waiting to get out...

I don't imagine it would take a real mod application to delete them.

I am the assistant admin for The Magnificents alliance forums,

which is phpBB and very current, just like these Main Forums.

several versions ago, our Happy Birthday smiley stopped functioning as a smiley,
for some unknown reason.

Eventually we just deleted the smiley...

In fact, I think I did it personally...

I don't remember how... I just remember that it was done...
It has never returned, working or otherwise, with numerous updates...

Seems easy enough to request that these two smilies be deleted, once and for all.

Thanks for your consideration of this. :-)

might as well ask why this one is allowed too?
viewtopic.php?f=207&t=176707&p=2227787#p2227787

used then quoted by a few ppl ... seeing its the f in the above that makes it filtered

I've never seen that one before, so good catch... ;)

though it's certainly not an official emoticon...

and while I do think it should get looked at,

I've never seen it before, let alone outside of that thread. 8-[

perhaps you were referring to a more general issue of vulgarity posing as images?

It certainly would make things more difficult for a mod to search for...

It may just be an issue of it being there, and it being too difficult to remove, though you have a point. It does give the same message as those words which are filtered.

probably the only sanctioned symbol on these boards that could get one banned, all by itself...

depending on the circumstances of course...

(save for misc smiley only posts...)

lol... imagine if these symbols had been posted even once every 2 pages during the various server war threads...

Enforced Peace Announced for StarGateWars!!

^^^ you mean, these?

might want to add the :smt codes them to the filter... :-"

well, I suppose it's now a ban-able offense, at least... ;)

and if you still like me,
could you teach a fellow phpBB admin how to do that? 8-[

(as on our boards, :happy was simply deleted somehow...)

**EDIT... I figured it out... for some reason, they show up weird in the smileys box,
but normal when posting... :P

lol, you fixed them, or refreshed something...
cuz a minute ago,
I copied and pasted the altered tiny moving pictures out of the box,
which moved the original code, unaltered to the reply box...

That is not allowed. You see it as one thing, whereas other people see it as another.

Image That is what the image actually is.
