The things you can do when you just go a lil inactive

For those of you that don't know I just recently returned to the game that is an addictive drug to so many of us. I've been talking to a couple old friends and some have quit and some have decreased their amount of playing time. We discussed this and many of them were able to accomplish a good bit in RL. Me for instance when I quit playing this game I made $10,000 in a 3 month period, joined the Navy (leave for bootcamp March 21st) and got the job I wanted, lost 60 lbs, and more.
It got me thinking if I did all of that then I'm sure more people have or can.
So anybody else got any progress in RL they've made by laying off of the SGW that they want to share?

My experience is that you always spend X amount of time (If you have the ability too) on hobby's such as games, sports, tv ... etc.
And usually, if you quit one addiction, you will find it in something else.
I only play when I have nothing better to do, if something in real life pops up I simply log-off. And log-in back when I have time for this hobby. (Which still is a lot of time since I work on a desk with a computer so I'm just always logged in *lol* )
With all due respect JMX, if you couldn't get the things you needed done because of a game, then I think you have to learn to be tougher on yourself and just say "30 minutes on this game now and then I'll log-off no matter what"

I have to agree with the master...
In my time away I got my own business up and running, got promoted at work, and started taking Aikido classes

:P
Sometimes a bit of a break from something you love can bring some focus and perspective to the things that really matter.

you're right. But I'm sure a lot of people can agree with me when they're farming and its close to turn change and they farm, and next thing they know its only 15 min left so you wait and do it again and so on. Next thing you know 3-4 hours have gone by and its time to go to bed or work or something. And if you're in a war you might as well kiss the day good bye.
I will say now this game either just isnt as addicting or I guess I'm used to do other stuff besides playing it.

I agree, I wont deny the fact that it has happened to me as well.
But at some point you just have to learn to draw the line somewhere. Real life comes first and if you feel like you need a 7 hour sleep before work. Then log off and go to bed lol

Yes...just log off and go to bed...my preciouses will be here when I get back...mmm...maybe after one more turn...yes one more turn and the precious will go away for awhile...yes...hey how is it morning already? Not again...
I backed off playing full stop for a semester last year and was able to survive my general exams. I knew if I focused on this game, I would likely fail.
Hey why aren't I writing my paper again? Oh boy...

Thing is, we are partly drawn by the game due to friends/community. And partly by the game itself.
It has a history, took few years from our lives lol. Some almost lost their marriage due to this game...
So I have to compensate. Play less, other times. But I love the community.

Nice to hear it worked out for you.
I learned years ago that i will allways spend some time in games like this or wow.
But i have to careful to balance it with real life and time investmend or my real life and especially my health suffers.
So no really activity here or a five day raid week.
Just the occasional hour here and then. Then everything goes fine.
And staying arround for friends and a bit fun its all this is about for me-

Your right JMX. There is some much to do and see when your not stuck at the screen!
I think the majority of people have a 'hardcore' playing moment for a few months or so and then they just become a 'medicore' player...I think thats what I did?

I always try to balance things out with my RL, fortunately I have never been addicted with any game in my life..except sport, which was taken away from me unfortunately due to knee injuries..
Does SGW affect my life? Everything affects your life, like it or not..But I've never ever left out something in my life that's important to me due to SGW or any other game for that matter.
There are times when I've been farming for a few hours per day during turn changes (while studying, watching movies, playing guitar, etc) and there are times I login so rarely that I even forget my PPTs or to merlin my planets (more and more of the latter)..Has my RL suffered positive or negative sides of being inactive or active? Never, my grades have been the same, amount of time spent with my friends the same, lack of sleep the same, etc.
I just think that you are the master of your life and you can achieve everything you want without kicking off a hobby if you plan things right and stick to them. If the game is too addictive for you then yeah you might as well just quit if you can't devote time to other more important activities in your life due to it..
Just my 2cents worth of time I devote to SGW and forums lately, now back to not reading forums for a month or two probably..
