Mothership Cloaking devices?

A topic has risen in general that sparked my imagination...
In addition to Shields and whatever weapon your race uses...
Why not add Cloaking Devices?
PURPOSE:
In defense it works to hide your mothership from enemy sensors, giving you the element of surprise and increasing your mothership's defensive effectiveness...say by 15%(an arbitrary number up for debate)
(alternately it could affect enemy attack effectiveness)
In offense it will allow you to sneak up, increasing the effectiveness of your attack,(5% is fair I think...as most could detect a hyperspace window opening)
Mechanics of the idea:
Cloaking devices add a percent chance that other motherships won't "see" your mothership.
In order to increase that chance you must purchase more advanced Cloaking Tech...so you can purchase more devices.(start with Zero...no cloak...just like weapons) However there is a limit to how effective it can be(I'd say 50%)
Furthermore, ships with greater weapon capacities are harder to cloak, so every weapon slot you have actually decreases the effectiveness of the cloaking devices...
Therefore you will need more cloaking devices to achieve the same effect as your ms becomes more capable.
This could make it harder to achieve the irritating ms massings that ppl are capable of now...because they will have a much harder time finding your ms...
Please discuss...I know it's not perfect...but honestly...MS Cloaking Devices would be really cool...

I've just moved the other thread into Suggestions:
http://www.stargatewars.com/phpBB2/view ... hp?t=17900
The flaw I see in your plan is that it would favour the already powerful as they would be able to purchase the highest upgrade instantly.
There needs to be a higher cost - a couple of ideas:
1. You have the option of switcing your mothership cloak on or off - if it is switched on, then, like Realm Alert, there is a cost to your naq production - but the reduction is instant, you cannot just switch it on, then off again during a turn.
2. If the enemy mothership does 'see' the cloaked mothership, then significantly more damage will be caused to the cloaked ship, because defensive weapons capacity is halved, due to the power required to maintain teh cloak.
3. You have the option of switching your mothership cloak on or off - if it is switched on, then you need 'more' people to crew your mothership (this would assume the idea of training units to crew motherships comes into force).
Or you could have a combination of the above.
This opens a whole raft of other ideas though......
New weapons upgrades to seek out cloaked ships.
A Mothership tech upgrade - Improved sensors...........

I figured I had some flaws...I came up with it on the spot...
I like the second idea quite a bit...it just makes sense...
As for it favoring the strong...as stated above, the effectiveness of the cloak is determined by how many devices you have in relation to how many weapons and shields you have...
So if you have say...100 weps and shields...with the appropriate cloaking devices...
It's just as effective as if you have 1000 weps and shields with appropriate cloaking...
This is because there is an Upper limit on how effective it can be. (50% effectiveness maximum remember?)
In fact...it's more expensive the more powerful you are...as you must buy more cloaking devices to hide your increased number of weapons...
So buying extra cloaking devices does nothing...sure they could buy millions of cloaks...but they're limited to 50% effectiveness...

rather than have the defense go down the cloak should have a chance of malfunctioning and damaging weapons and shields leaving you sitting in the open

It would probably be simpler to have a drop in defense...less coding...
It's already asking alot I think...

Now...you can't say that we four are the
only ones with opinions on this...
I'd really appreciate some more input.

Good idea. Also, why not do the same thing with shields?

I like it but right now admin is trying to figure out why some people can not log in so it will be awhile before he thinks of this there are some things I like and some things that I don't like
THINGS I LIKE
1.The power to turn it on or off and takes some naq away.
2.The whole purpose of it.
3.It will stop people from just increaseing there mother ship because if they just worry about there deff and attack then they will get hit from the back.
THINGS I DON'T LIKE
1.How the more weapons u have the harder it is to increase the power because it will be hard to have a good attack and deff if u try to worry about your cloak all the time.
2.The thought that we should have people controling the mother ship I will lose more UU that way.
SUGGESTIONS
1.Have a weapon for the cloak so the more weapons u buy the better your cloak power becomes.
2.Make it so u can have a CD(cloak dissabler)or something so u can stand a chance sort of like covert and anti covert attack and deff.
I will tell u more when I think of them.

the idea of it being harder to cloak your ship the more powerful it is, prevents massively powerful players from exploiting this and annhilating weaker players...
Essentially it evens the playing field a little...so the uber powerful ppl cant just buy up to the maximum capability...
It'll cost more, the more powerful your ship is...
And I too am against needing trained units...
