What is a good ratio for shield/volley on your MS?

It really depends on how you plan to use it. Even then there are many ways you could do so.

I just stick to 1:1. 3:2 was another one of my favourites.

Depends if you want it for stat building, in which case you go for the cheapest configuration, or if you want to mass down MSes bigger than yours, in which case you go for more volleys, etc

Speak for yourself. That was as clear as it comes.

Simply getting a big MS is -perhaps- cheapest by just investing in Shields (due to the somewhat higher power they give per upgrade), getting a good MS is different, getting a massing MS is even more different. Regardless, never buy just weapons. You'll be shredded by any ship with a defence.

Theoretically, you could buy only Hangars and get yourself a huge planetspanker.. :P But it'll be expensive. And lose a LOT of fleets when massed.

Buy LOTS of weapons in order to add a small bonus to your offworld attacks / homeworld defense.
Buy LOTS of shields in order to pay less repair bills.
Buy LOTS of fighter squadrons if all you're in for is attack / defense bonus and planetary massing / stealing at a huge cost.

As they said above there are multiple uses for a mothership and there is no general build ratio which does all of these best. You can go for cheapest (statbuilder special), good for online battles, good for massing a bigger mothership, or for even planets should you want to.

lol, okay, you were confuzzling me... :)

because most of that was news to me...

Despite the high resale value of fleets,
I only build about 19 fleets unless I am planning on taking a planet and then reselling the fleets. :)

Mostly I wish to use my Mothership for reducing my supers lost during my farming...

and since I often go farming too frequently to send my mothership away for 24 hours,

it would be useful if I could use my mothership to protect my supers
during ordinary naq hits on my realm...

Bonus Round:
and it'd be nice if they looked at their mothership later and wondered what the hell happened to it...

As people say depends on what u plan to do in the long run.

Personaly i like an all rounder. i have large shields for protection of my volleys just below that and high power of fleets for planet massing.

thats me but like i said depends on what u plan to do.

Short-term I did the gun-happy thing for a bit,

but that's old news. :)

Long-term, I tend to build like you, Sammy...

but mostly because I learned many moons ago in my previous MMORPGs

that building an all around decent account is the best way to avoid getting screwed

by updates that the general playing community thinks will never happen...

and not because I have a specific military goal or plan.
