This is the place where all the diplomats of all the alliance can come and chat, get to know one another and just have an e-drink with each other. Doesn't matter if you're hostile or not, neutral or just small, we'll take anything and anyone that wants to say something and has something to say!
Let me start by saying its a privilege to be the EPA diplomat and a pleasure to chat with so many people that are part of the backbone of their alliances.

People, come forth and diplomat! :D

Spam split and moved to SGW General. If after more discussion it doesn't suit general I will move it back. But it didn't seem to fit in TTT.

diplomats are so damn pointless, why ? cuz they can't truely negotiate anyways. the only person who can truely negotiate as a diplomat should be able to is an alliance/empire leader. other then that they are just middle persons who are in the way and slowing things down

Depends, they might have full authority to negotiate on the leader's behalf as the alliance diplomatic officer.

Cant believe Im actually going to say this but I disagree

1 ) Alliance command structures vary, some have absolute power with the leader, some the HC, some take members votes, and any of these methods can empower a diplomat to make agreements within certain limits, send a diplomat to a meeting saying you can concede point A, point B we would like if possible, but point C is deal breaker, etc

2 ) The qualities that make a great leader dont always make a great good diplomat or negotiator.

3 ) The go-between role even serves a purpose, though not a very noble one as a face saver, appearance does matter and any leader who approaches his enemy with talk of peace immediately appears the weak, just the act of a leader approaching their enemy with talk of peace can give the enemy the confidence to continue or demand more from any agreement.

There was a time when I mocked diplomats, lets face it in a war game the peacemakers can often be portrayed as weak, but after having a go at it once or twice I found a new respect for them, keeping your cool, be careful with your wording, and restraining your personal feelings is incredibly difficult, give me a nice simple massing any day.

lol true, we may discuss the methods, needs or value of diplomacy, but no one will do it in public, diplomacy happens behind closed doors and only the results are made public.

I dissagree completly, communication and like minds make for a world of difference. If your not a team , confidant in your leader, dipo and other significant others and the chain of command then your screwed anyway so why bother with a dipo.

who would want to have all the decisions made by one person alliance/empire leader ? Thats not a team , that does not honor or respect your team mates.

I have always found it to be preposterous for some of the empires in game who run off of one god head.

I would say that if you dont have a dipo , then you dont trust your team and you might be a bit of a control freak lol

on topic... its a tough job , even for an alliance whose answer is always war.

Props to the Dipos for all the long nights and even longer convos , for putting faces on accounts and sticking their necks out for truth, and respect.

Its not a thread where we discuss if diplo's should exist or why. But people interested in diplomacy just want to talk without actually doing any deals or such.

Well Said :smt050

Been a Leader and been a Diplo and I really do prefer the Diplomatic role....

You have to remember that each HC structure does indeed differ and the Words spoken by your alliance representative can have far reaching consequences. Diplomats have the capability to forge many things - War....Peace and anything in between and this is just with Words :P. Personally I think its an art in itself. One which can either reaps the spoils of War or the growth of Friendship.

If Bush had the diplomats we have in GW, Saddam would be enjoying the cultural wellness of Hollywood right now and Iraq would be promoting the fast food chain like it invented it... Thumbs down for you Georgie.
