Some interesting facts about (S)GW.

So I was bored.
OK. So I was REALLY bored.
And I after some digging, came up with this information.

DISCLAIMER: The majority of this information was gathered from Alexa. Which to you, may or may not be considered reliable. Trust these statistics at your own risk. I personally don't trust them. Though I'd like to see better. And this colour indicates my own "commentary".

94.06% of users went to the main site (gatewars.com)
5.82% of users went to ascended (ascended.gatewars.com)

0.00061% of all the internet users visited gatewars.com. Which is about 1.2e6 people (1.2 million)
Which I personally find very hard to believe.
Instead, consider this. In 2005, Alexa reported 10e6 downloads of their toolbar. Assuming all of the toolbars were being used after they were downloaded, that means approx. 1.044% of all internet users was using the Alexa toolbar. Lets scale that up. In 2010, the number of internet users was 205.3% its original size. So if the number of users using the Alexa toolbar also increased the same amount, that means 20532574 users used Alexa in 2010. Now, we can deduce how many people really visit gatewars.com every day. 0.00061% of all users with the alexa toolbar visited gatewars.com.

So that means 12524 visitors visited SGW today. Now that seems like a much more reasonable number.

The average visitor will look at 13 pages on gatewars.com
12.7% of all visitors to gatewars.com will leave immediately.
The average visitor will spend 4.43 minutes on gatewars.com
1.8% of all visitors to gatewars.com will have come from a search engine. Of that 1.8%, 17.65% will came come searching for the term "gatewars", 5.81% from "stargate online game".

SGW is reported to be spending $2628 - $3916 on advertising per month, bringing in 4374 - 5079 visitors.

Locations of traffic into SGW:
Canada - 27.4%
USA - 23%
Slovenia - 22%
Sth. Africa - 13.7%
Israel - 6.5%
Other - 7.4%

Apparently, the majority of visitors to SGW are 18-24, with the 25-34 demographic not far behind.
I personally consider this to be quite unreliable, as I would imagine, a noticeable percentage of the players are <18. And I am correct, as my demographic survey a few months back shows that 29% of all male players are 15-<20. Other than that, the statistics look reasonable.

The majority of visitors to SGW are male I would be surprised if it wasn't...

The majority of visitors to SGW have "some college education". I assume this also includes high school.

The VAST majority of visitors to SGW originate from a domestic IP (aka, their home)

78.13% of all visitors to SGW had Youtube open immediately prior.
21.88% of all visitors to SGW had Facebook open immediately prior.

2/3 of all visitors to SGW will leave to Youtube immediately after.
1/3 of all visitors to SGW will leave to Google immediately after.
If you account for "Other" sites, it would be more believable, but I can imagine how youtube and facebook are immediately before SGW...(e.g. *Chat with friends on FB/Watch vids on YT* "Ohh! It's turn change!")

If you see any errors I've made (I did type this up at 0439, after all...), or have some questions, please let me know.
Discuss! While I head off to bed <_<

You're such an odd man, CABAL. :smt058 Don't ever lose that. ;)

Also! Good statistics. Have to say, I like how so many visitors are from Slovenia.. big botnet there, or a big stargate fanbase?! :)
The replicators have me surrounded!
Though I'd like to see how these stats compare with the actual stats which only adminJason knows :-k

I'm surprised neither UK nor Ireland are listed, and Israel has such a high amount of visitors.

Interesting statistics -and interpretation- anyway! :)

Don't quote me on this, but it is possible (And I wouldn't be at all surprised) that US military internet (of those deployed in the middle east) are routed through Israel

You realise that BOTs, spiders and such, massively influence various of these statistics right ?

Seeing as GW been in the air for some time, and bots visit frequently, several of those high numbers originate from them.

Should ask Jason for his statistics. I'm sure he can differentiate between bots and players, among other things.
Also, the man-woman ratio is not interesting, for example. Such things needn't be checked.

Actually, not quite. Alexa gets their statistics from people who are using their toolbar. The chances of anyone making a spider that uses the toolbar are extremely slim (As they would need a browser). As well as the fact that Jason, unless he has a script running to extract people's headers, HE is the one that won't be able to tell the difference between a spider and a real visitor.

I'm interested in how a toolbar/search engine knows with certainty that I'm female or not ...

It knows your browsing habbits! :-$

But I'd imagine they'd give you a quick questionnaire before you get the toolbar...

Before installing/using it, you need to fill in a form.
