You cant say "dont discuss xbox" then say "ps3 is better than xbox anyway". Thats not how you avoid discussions...thats how you incite flame wars.
So...about the only thing I have to say is: unlucky. Careful with your credit cards.
Fair play to the hacker, pretty good work.
*goes off to play xbox*

Old news. Might be back up today in NA. Don't know about EU.
Full story: Sony got jailbreaked by a hacker called GeoHotz. Sony filed a lawsuit, got a settlement. Hacking group called anonymous did not like this and started attacking sony. Few days later sony psn got hacked. Anonymous said they didn't do it but it COULD have been an individual job by one of their members since they're such a large group. Turns out that's probably true according to sony.
Anonymous has now said that they're going to do protests on iran's government websites.
Sony reconstructed the whole network from scratch and they said they planned to release a few services (including online gaming) today, followed by a few incentives - one month free Plus and some free content.
Oh and Sony Entertainment Online had their servers shut down yesterday I believe (or day before?) because they got hacked too.
Sony says that all the credit card information that was stolen was encrypted but they still advise people who had their credit card infos attached to their account to check it for a few months.

There are loads of rumors going around, some might be true some might not. I might be off with this number since I read the article a while back but I believe that around 10 mill users had credit cards attached to their psn.
Another rumor I heard was that sony knew who the hacker was, but sony's being very tight lipped about this so unless they release an official statement or someone claims this theft for themselves I'm gonna think of those rumors as just rumors.

As far as I know, its modern warfare 2 which was hacked and the xbox network is still live and wasnt hacked. (info got routed from this, but the actual network was not hacked)
There have been serious flaws in MWII's security, and they've been patching for months already.
Now, with sony's network, I believe they were able to slip in through the security obtaining database information about people. (network breach)
Sony down, Microsoft up .... a plus 1 for gates it seems :>

PS3 may be free to play but has Xbox been hacked and had customers credit card details stolen?

Has sony?
Because noone is saying that credit card details were taken. Every sony statement has made it clear they can't rule out the possibility but not one has come out and said "Yeh, we lost your credit card details". They've basically not ruled it out, but not confirmed it either. So there isnt an answer either way until a swarm of fraud is committed or sony themselves confirm the encrypted data was compromised. EVen if it was, card security codes arent held on the PSN servers anyway.
Personal details such as billing address, DOB etc are the only details that have 100% been stolen. If your're stupid enough to have one password fits all, or you reply to any email asking for personal details, no matter how much prefilled data the sender has on you, you deserve everything you get.

Just because he "can", doesn't mean he should break the laws just because he doesn't have any money.
That's
exactly one of the arguments some $$ scammers of online games could say, just replacing Sony by whoever are their victims.

Actually i differentiate average Joe from the multi billion dollar conglomerate with wads of cash.. I'm not saying its a valid reason or an excuse but that the exploit was made possible and easy by Sony and that we have no right to judge the man (men) that did this.
