Just wondering since I noticed it when skimming through SGW General - why are some threads with 'Have a nice birthday'-wishes moved to This, That&Those, while others are allowed to stay in SGW General?

They're not "allowed" it's just that no one bothers to move them after a day. Simple coincidence some are moved and others aren't after 1 day. All of them stay for at least 1 day though. I think actually almost all are moved eventually..

As Empy said, birthday wishes belong in TTT&T, yet are allowed to stay in General for approx. 24 hrs.

Would probably be more efficiently moved if they all had a common naming, however as it is, they often are moved within a day or two unless they go unnoticed or fall below active topics and are out of sight.

I think individual birthday greetings are good for making ppl feel as if the are part of forum community..

also think all threads could be deleted after a week..

They are moved after a day or two usually with a ghost. Then later they are merged into the big birthday bash thread. Never deleted.

A birthday thread should be allowed to stay for the duration of the individuals birthday, there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

It gives people a chance to reply, and the individual/s who's birthday it is a nice surprise when they check. :)

that's my point, why merge them into one massive mess later.. and given time zones 2/3days minimum in general would be good.

The merging was discussed for a while in the mod sections, where the pros and cons were argued over a while, and it was figured out that the best solution was to merge them together after a while. Another option that came up but which was quickly shot down was a "birthday section".

Such thread may be a bit messy, but there usually are not more than 1 such thread per day, rarely more than two, and thus the merging will not cause significant post order chaos.

Maybe what should have happened was to create a birthday section in archives.

Nah, what was shot down was an active forum, like alliance announcements. What I am suggesting is a birthday thread graveyard.

'just not having the time', some other reason. Do not read anything into it. It's a black swan.

To be honest I didn't even think this was worthy of being considered an issue to bring up. :-k
