Ingame Message Bugs...

I sent a note that used the term

joint operation

and the message sent used the words

attacht operation

now, I am reluctantly willing to accept that there are certain symbols that Admin Jason's code

will switch in outgoing messages within the game for security reasons,

but this is not nearly the first case of a (seemingly) innocent word being changed by the game's code

in a game message that I have personally sent...

So, yea, what gives? ](*,)

I'm inclined to believe it's a filter for marijuana cigarette... but that seems to be a bit much..

Lol if it is though.

lmao...

if that's what is, Admin Jason has my condolences
for the messages from moms and dads that must have prompted that... :P

:: goes off to send zero a bunch of drug related words ingame ::

results:

five words zero'ed out, like this: ******

none related to drugs, all miscellaneous vulgar words... :-k

no other words altered... :-k

Why does an apostrophe appear as a forward slash?

I'm thinking that some words are filtered to prevent people from attempting to throw code into their messages?

Could explain a bit.. as well as the apostrophe thing. I think an explaination was given at one point, but I have no idea where the thread would be.

yes, it is...

I am not sure where the explanation is,

but as I alluded to in my first post,

blocking code is exactly the reason for this...

and the blocking of certain symbols in your personal log as well.

LMAO...

such a naughty word that selected is...

Plus, I love it when the censor can't even spell the replacement correctly... :smt047

someone shoot me if it's accurate in South Africa or New Zealand...

though it's probably accurate in someone's dialect...

maybe Cajun?

Well, JOINt and SELECTedfew are both SQL operations, being JOIN and SELECT respectively. That is why they are changed, as you said, to prevent code insertion. Not really a bug, just a feature to protect the game.

maybe we should get a list on the forums of things which are changed, and what they are changed to...

so that if i want to say joint operation, esp. to someone who's english skills are not the best,

or that if a person wants to use their alliance name, that a way can be figured out how to either do it safely, or to avoid those words...

i have a feeling that sel_ected few would work, tho tiresome... :P

Personally I don't know if Admin should reveal words that are used to "break" parts of the game.

Just treat it as an inconvenience. Life is full of them, we learn to live with them the majority of the time.

All SQL command words are filtered by a 'replace'.
All SQL-injection related characters are filtered by 'real escape string'.
This is why some words are oddly 'sent'. If you want a word-list of words filtered, just check http://www.sql.org/ for 'Commands'.

If the above sounds like abracadabra, go watch Harry Potter and don't worry your pretty little heads about 'complicated stuff'.

This is all the explanation you need.

Just in case:
SELECT choose
INSERT add into
DELETE eliminate
JOIN attach
UNION collective
