I have not seen this (or maybe i did - can't remember if it's the same documentary that I have in mind), but if aliens would attack, we won't have any chance, because they would be so advanced, that we wouldn't even be able to understand the nature of their attack... heck i can even say that we wouldn't even know that we are under attack, until it would be too late anyway, so I'd rather prefer not to think about this.

Aliens? Like Mexicans or, in my case, Hungarians? Because we have no proof that aliens from space exist.

Billions of galaxies made each of billions of planets? Even if this number was overestimated let's say by 1000x, it's totally unlikely we are alone in the universe...
All this stuff about particular conditions required, well, when you got trillions of possible planets...totally sure we are NOT alone! I say, at least 1000 planets with evolved life form in universe atm.

Just evolved life forms? You disappoint me with that thinking! To continue with your estimation number, I would think that there are at least 1000 races so evolved in THIS galaxy, that we wouldn't even recognise them as being a life form, because we're so undeveloped compared to them as like a bacteria is to a vertebrate and i doubt that a bacteria knows what a vertebrate is. :)

just wondering what possable reason would cause aliens to unprovoked attack earth.
my thinking is if they traveled all that way to why would they attack us .
to attack us would seem pretty unadvanced and ilogical

Evolved life forms meant by that, as much Unas-like are towards as much as Wraith-like entities...if not more.

@DLT: Independence Day movie is a good example of hostile aliens: they colonize planets to feed resources and then move on. We appeared as a threat to their plans thus the attacks. In my opinion, it's more something like % of them for agressive action and another % against it. For different reasons to each.

That is a trekkie, Gene Roddenberry philosophy about aliens and I respect it, but I will give you a response in the same manner as in my previous post.

Lets assume, that an alien specie comes and visits this planet. Why?

- well, it could be because a nice blue planet is a good supply of resources for their needs. Maybe they are in need of those resources, otherwise why would they travel such a long distance? Do you think that it will be illogical for them to harvest the resources? What is that harvesting action for them? Is it similar to our mining, our crop and cattle farming? And where are we compared to them on the evolution scale? Are we cattle?

- or it could be because they want to share their knowledge? with who? with us who invest every bit of energy and we put all our sweat in military advancements, we who firstly use the science breakthrough to build weapons? I doubt they will want to share their knowledge. We may even have been visited by them already, but they left when they saw how savage we are.

I think that our first encounter will be with the first type of aliens, because that is the logical situation that applies to us, the human race, the dominant species of this planet.

same could be said of some of the things humans do to each other...

though one would hope that at some stage somewhere intelligent peaceful beings have evolved

If Aliens come to this planet, it will be more or less for two of the listed reasons.

1) To visit our planet in peace.
2) To conquer/destroy us for any reason they see fit.

And when that happens? There will be nothing we can damn well do about it. We may have advanced ground warfare, but if any race is able to have interstellar space travel..you won't last a single minute unless you adapt to their level of technology and damn fast.

guys i really advice u to see that movie.
it explains almost everything of what can happen if Alien attack us. the scenario is that a huge alien space ship has come to earth and doesnt seek contact. the rest u can imagine.

my self doesnt believe that that will ever happens unless our civilization has provoked any war or is in any galactic war. so far the nature law applies also in cosmos. actually is vice versa. it is not allowed to extinct a race unless the race doing that has a supremacy over the galactic and is destroying it , advanced races doesnt have the suicide or destroying pleasure.

there is no interest in our planet for any resource mineral or water as there is in abundance everywhere.

what can attract aliens is studing the race civilisation and manipulating it. some how i ve read around web that since our begining frame some 5k years we are being manipulated continuously by those who created the homo sapience. it is a mind game control between alien races involved resulting in constant wars between societies. it ll go that way until we ll be able to jump the 4th dimension and reach a higher conscious level.

the point is: are they illegal aliens or do they have a valid visa?

right.. when i plan my next invasion i won't use any low hovering craft. nothing beats the old tactics of nuking the place from orbit. that's the only way to be sure.
