So, I was looking through the accounts for sale earlier and I saw that people where going to sit on an account as the OWNER was at war with them

Now, whats the point in this? You are essentially random massing are you not?

I figured it would be the account owner you are at war with, not the actual account... can someone explain please?

another way of punishing the current owner ..ie reduce the amount he might normally get for an acc that is "clear"

This seems like a question for general, not sure.

Anyway, the point is to get a surrender from the ex-owner/seller. If he/she is selling without surrendering to someone at war with, they're essentially being egomaniacs.

Now some people choose to sit on an account regardless of a surrender, and the only reason for that is:

Those people deserve to be smacked and whacked, Willy Wonka style - whatever that may be :P

 StarGateWars General. I'll leave the mods to move it if needed. I've answered the question. Have a good one.

In my experience saying you're going to 'sit on an account even if sold' rarely happens after the sale, it's mostly bluff & BS, and is said when a fight has gotten way to personal, but sometimes it does have a practical purpose like

1) If this person selling is trying to upgrade putting off buyers of their current account can prevent or delay their upgrade.

2) If someone wants out of the game but is to stubborn to surrender first you might want to put off buyers so someone you know can buy at a reduced price.

I dont approve of or use these tactics but Im told they have been used.

In fact the only acceptable reason IMO to say ( and really mean ) an account will be sat on after a sale is if the person selling has outstanding debts and you dont want them to leave the game before settling them.

I did it once, because I was positive that the account wasn't sold, he changed nicknames and made a sale thread and told everyone that his account had been sold. I was sure he were lying and my suspicions later proved correct.

I'm with Kjarkur on this one. As long as the account is proven to have moved owners and isn't simply part of a trick to fool the attacker. Then i can see no reason why the account should be hit, you attack a player, not an account. If people move account, just hit the new account instead of the old one, simples :-D
