I don't know the difference between American Country music and South African Country, but I can only listen to/enjoy a small amount of country songs.

I listen to everything. Disco, Reggae, Heavy Metal, Hip-Hop, Techno, etc. But I find that I enjoy <1% of country songs I have heard, compared to the much higher percent of other music that I enjoy. I think it's the absurdity of the songs that I cannot stand.

There is such a thing as comedy music (Weird Al anyone?), and I might like country if they just labeled it as comedy. I can't take the entirety of the country genre seriously with songs like "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" and "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy", especially when such songs are their #1 hits for months at a time. Also, unless I'm line dancing, it is pretty difficult to dance to country.

most "pop(ular)" music aka stuff that for some reason is in the charts all the time.
"Schlager music"

used the quotation marks because the borders of music genres often are fluently or not well defined.
