Because My Astronomers and Such are N00bs...

I wish to upgrade the Astronomy and Navigation sections of my mothership...
so that I don't spend two weeks bringing back all sorts of crap planets.

FYI: Monsterous-Sized 4 Bil Attack/Def/Income/Covert Planet... crap?
ya...
Never fails, 14 or so days of searching later...
Your mothership has located a 30k - 60k UP planet.
It will be orbit within 24 hours.
~ Huzzah!!
Finally... dumb luck... no thanks to them idiots on my flying boat...

Sweet idea, but impossible to balance just like that. Everyone would upgrade their MS to the max in no time, and you would be back to square one.
Combined with that 'map' idea, though, this too would be a great idea to implement on a new server.

There is no point? As the planets you find are those people have dumped... So a better team only means you get the best of someone elses scraps?

I have abandoned some sweet enemy planets in wars.

okay... well, I guess what I'm asking for is that motherships actually do a better job of finding good planets out there...

There aren't enough good planets out there to facilitate that wish. You should keep a statistic of found planets value, and you'll see they're terrifyingly bad.

as in, I always find a 48k UP planet, within about 2 weeks?
that's a decent planet, as found ones go.

You should consider any planet a decent planet when they're all free

Well, I'd like to find a 300 bil Covert / Attack Dualie...
but since I can't protect it, and don't wanna buy tons of Merlins...
Should I hope for / look for something better than a 48k UP planet?
It's been a long time since I dropped one.

Keep trying for 8 weeks and you'll find yourself a nice 250k UP planet with 300,000 defence facilities.

I remember when a few of those were dropped years ago, back when defences couldn't be sold and such.. when admin dropped planets when the owner cheated.

But more seriously, you won't find those planets, indeed. Good planets are kept. Bad planets are dropped.

7 attempts in a row and it brings back 1 crappy income planet. Yeah my navigation crew just flies around drinking beer all day as far as I can tell.

lol, yea, as I said, it usually takes me 14 straight days of searching to get what I do...
somewhere in the game materials, it lists something about the number of planets found and rejected, as a means of telling you how close your mothership is to bringing something, anything home.
I checked the Help & Rules, the game updates, and the archived updates, but I can't find what I am looking for, so for the moment, I will post my two personally archived notices:
Subject: planet found!
Message text:
This one was chosen out of 100 possibles. You can see the details on your planet summary display. The planet was successfully re-orbited into your home galaxy.

I think you need something like 18 possibles to bring one home?
