If I am too big to squash those so far beneath me..the why are those thar are so far beneath able to reach up and hit?

I thought this was fixed

not sure if this was answered ..but I believe ..you just multiply by 5

e.g. 4,000,000,000 army * 5 = 20bill army so .. if your army is in that range (20b) you could get farmed by the 4 bill army ... if your bigger then 20b they can not farm you.

I can confirm that there are zero defense ascended realms on my farm list
that I can't farm atm,
because my planet count was recently halved.

One possibility is if you were massing the person until they were too small for you to hit. Then their pop would grow faster than yours would so they'd sneak back into the >1/5th range. At that point they can mass you back and since you tend to kill more than you lose on ascended when you mass someone, they could mass you the whole way down.

I would imagine the key is still doing such things between turn changes, like raiding on Main.
