Galactic Council - Give it another chance

The Galactic Council was a great idea, a way for alliance leaders to come together and work for the benefit of the game but sadly it faded away due to wars and people pursuing self interest.
With most the old rivalries resolved, most of the major alliances currently at peace, and the game in decline with much need of an overhaul, this is the perfect time to give it another try.
I ask all alliances to please visit the Galactic Council and contribute with idea's and suggestions, to discuss each others proposals purely on merit without prejudice or preconception.

The Galactic Council, the game itself............. NEEDS YOU !!!!

Not a positively charged swimming pool. a) because swimming pools dont take much exploring and b) because it could be painful if the charge is large enough.
Yeah fix the game! Tell Jason to fire himself and hire somebody that isnt intent on bleeding the dying game dry.

Did it really fade away 'due to wars and people pursuing self interest'?

I think it suffered the 'forum initiative fate'. Like others things though, it could be revived.. or fun can be had trying to.

I imagine that was a chunk of it, the main thing I saw as a problem was complete inactivity of those that were supposed to be participating in discussion (ie, vast majority of participants).
Not only that, but it was limited to alliance/empire leaders, as opposed to everyone.

It is a galactic council, a senate.. not a galactic hippy-democrat meeting place.

The initial response to the idea was good and lots of people wanted to participate but most the server was at war at the time and the various leaders/reps couldnt agree on update idea's that favored their war opponents, then activity dropped off fast.
As I said in the first post, with most the server now at peace it is an ideal time to put forward update idea's purely on merit rather than the immediate effects on on-going wars.

It's not limited to leaders, it is limited to 2 players from each alliance, the leader and one other.
This means if the leader does not have time he/she can nominate a representative for that alliance.
The alliance leader and rep holds a discussion in their own alliance forum and takes the views of their alliance to the table.

It was limited to whoever the alliance/empire's designated.
I don't think it specifically had to be a leader, just a representative.
If everyone could go, it would just be the suggestions section.
Which is why I think it didnt work.
There is no need to have such a program and instead just have some people go to admin meets and link to the thread(s) and have admin look at them. No need to do something big with only a few people and the rest have to talk to those people. Yea it sounds good, but not everyone can see those peoples responses. Yea there representative could relay the response, and then relay that response to the original response. Which is dumb given our small community here and ingame.
This might have worked a few years back when it was much bigger community, but not now when its so small.

I can see how making a parallel suggestions section, to which only a limited amount of people have access, will work a lot better than the original.

I don't exactly see the suggestions forum bustling with activity either.
Imo, there is no harm in giving this a try. Worse case scenario it just dies again and all thats lost is a little time by those that tried to make it work.
Yea it doesnt cause people dont think of any to put forth.
Another such program will not make people have a sudden idea and put forth through people, which takes time. When instead of waiting for the person to come online to let them know or see if they got it and forwarded it, when just go to the forum and do it yourself.

Sadly admin does not read the suggestion area, thats why not many bother posting there any more, and even the best suggestion threads are full of squabbling over details.
The idea of the Galactic Council is that we work out the details among ourselves first, then present complete update idea's to Admin in the name of all the alliances involved.
Would be hard for admin to refuse something that has cross-server support via the backing of all major alliances, and impossible for him to say it wasnt wanted/needed with so many players behind it.

And thats why I said some people go to admin meets and link him to the threads.
So basically, you dont want him to see everyone who disagrees with the idea and those people merits.
We can already work out the details ourselves with the threads already there. There is no need to make such a program to do so. Our community is too small for this GC to work. Like I said, it could have worked years ago when it much bigger. But not now, its too small to have only a few people taking about it and having them relay it to there alliance. When we all can just read it and post what we think about it.
