I'm wondering what kind of social network it is, is it some sort of similar to MySpace but more business-focused?
Anyone uses it around here?

It's a "social network" which is actually supposed to become a network. Primarily, it is business related. Many statistics say 80% of jobs today are found by knowing someone who knows someone. LinkedIn is a social network which focuses on that. Your profile is essentially your resume with a list of interests and whatnot added into it. You friends act as references. It's primary use is to build a business network, either to find jobs or to find the right person for the job you want done. But it can be a bit social, too.

LinkedIn and Xing are the big ones here in Germany. It is a good tool to keep track of people you know /have worked with and make new (business) contacts.
