Reminiscing about the good old days.

Remember the GA? Remember alliances just attacking because they could? Remember the GA, EPAc, The Faction and CoP? Would just like to see people play the game the way they did back then. We created politics and fought over real issues (not real life issues but you get my drift.) Alliances were targeted to because they were too powerful, too much a threat. Now alliances seem to fight when someone is insulted, or "friendly" wars are started with picky rules.
Bring back the hostile, hold nothing back, steal all your planets style of war!

Those type of wars are fun at the start and when you get a good onliner but otherwise they are no fun. That causes many oeople to leave the game. Not a good idea.

+1
With the exception of the TL/FS vs. mH/DDE war, my most fun wars and my best onliners all happen in the short term one. There's just more excitement in it.
Even that war had gotten boring towards the end, actually.

I wasn't around for those wars mentioned, but maybe they were different. But FUALL vs TJP was boring. For people who dont have time to raid and farm much. Its impossible to grow or even improve your account. Ive had a good couple weeks of farming and raiding. That type of long drawn out war only works for money spenders and people who are able to commit large amounts of their time to the game. For casual players, it kills their experience.

Valid point you have there. I think that back then though, the power players mostly got there by good old fashioned farming and raiding. And of course being in a first page alliance got you a grand old boost. You have to remember that back then, having a RAW UP of 100k was something big. I still remember when Tweety posted that achievement. Covert levels on average were much lower and don't even get me started on motherships. The days when you, as a new player could not even BUY the mothership before someone stole you 450mill naq right out under you.
Now a days, things are hugely inflated. When did plague kick in? Around 100 million or so? Even I ranked about 45 - 55 most times.
But those days were simply great. The politics of it was awesome. Now I just got to get back to the equivalant power I was back then, and oh boy is that a chore.

Those days didn't really differ from the current situation 'cept in that there were more players.

The politics can still be there you just need two conflicting sides to go at it. OE vs TAF was a political chaos, last summer was all over the place ingame on forums admin chat. It's all just....boring now.

There is only one solution..those who LOVE ME (which I know all of you do) swear allegiance, and those who HATE ME (for which one day I'm going to turn up at your house and kill u) swear hatred, and then we have a damn fine server war!!!

Not enough people playing now to have it like it was back then, if there was then alliances would be massed, the politics and reasons for war would be better and so on and so forth. I miss the days of bugging REK or Deni about who can I mass and when, and waiting for days to get a reply...then just doing it, getting my balls busted for it, then they would say " no worries, I was gonna tell you to mass so and so anyways"

Money killed the game. You can go to war for years and then loose lots of UU etc then just buy it all back.
I remember UU was $8/ mil, very difficult to get hold of.
In the days, even before me, someone who had a strong account was normally built through sheer farming and massing someone took sweat and blood.
Internet speeds have got so fast, that now you can go and make a cup of tea with sellotape on the attack button and the other laptop for repairs and mass someone and you could be a complete nube.
Alliances use to save up war funds and then let rip as atatck turns and UU where hard to come by. Now, just buy 80K or so from the black market.
That is why alliances try to arrange wars, so they never go for for an eternity that start off fun and then more work is done on the forums abusing each other than in game.
Thats my 3 shillings worth

The Old Days. A popular topic with a few of my friends, who actually played back then. Not many of them left. I remember in 2005 when I first registered, I was stuck for a week, constantly attacking to get naq to improve myself, at around rank 5,300. Unit production was 3k. I make over 4x that per turn now.
I agree it was such a better atmosphere back then. However, all good things come to an end. We as players have entered a new era. One that is not quite as fun, much easier to grow. Much easier to get high amounts of naq.
However, that is what Origins is for I think. Brings us all back to a time where it was NOT as easy to rebuild. Where every mistake actually cost you.

Capital city of Iceland. How long will it take you, big boy?
Putting ETL's spam on the side and on topic - this game has changed quite a lot and for the time being training newcomers and helping them grow should be our main goal - that way we could actually see some of the old fun again. At least part of it.

What about the years of sgw when there was no such thing as an 'onliner', if someone happened to be online you would just carry on as normal
