Is this why I couldn't log in?

Probably, there was a few key changes.

Probably the most important is the dead man switch one.
Also you can see who is in what unit in the lobby now.

How many players can be in a team?

and is it only surviving team members that get the prize?

4 max, 2 min, if your the only person in the team, when there is 6 hours left before the tournament starts your unit will be destroyed and you will be placed randomly.

All members from the team get a copy of the prize, so if your team comes first all your members will get a copy of the first prize, including the demi.

Sweet! I assume the first prize for the TDM is much lower than the first prize for an SDM, then?

You dont exist

You can join my unit if you wish, I'm usually in there.
Although you could just post a request to join a unit in the tournament discussion, or PM a few people and ask to join them or something...it's not exactly socially awkward all up in here.
